Im looking into purchasing a smith and wesson mp-15 orc 5.56/.223! Is this a good gun and are they reliable? The one im looking at new is $999 with a quad rail. All input will be greatly appreciated

S&W ar's are GREAT i dont just say it cause i own one.
No AR has made me happy, ive sold 10+ ar's on this forum alone cause they were crappola. That list includes danielle defense, rra, stags, aero, and others i cant remember.
The mp15 is the only one i like. Very reliable.

I have the M&P 15T....LOVE it!!!!

Great accuracy, reliability, fit & finish. Great value too (IMHO)

I had the ORC and I regret selling it every day that I breath...crazy durable and reliable and best bang for your buck in that price range.

Love my S&W M&P15T! Great out of the box shooter and Smith and Wesson has a great warranty program and stand by there product.

I got the m&p Orc at a turners sale a couple years back. Love the gun, not a single issue and thousands of rounds of anything. Even dirty and not oiled it shoots. I recently put a quad rail on mine so I would say you are getting a good deal.

Why not the base model? $650, only real change is replacing the A2 front sight with a gas block/ rail. Hard to justify $350 more for that.

The sport is pretty new, I bought my Orc before sports came out. I bet others did as well.

Are you dead set on buying your AR and not building? The only reason I ask is because I built mine for almost exactly that same price, tax and DROS included, and got a lot more bang-for-my-buck. Mid-length Daniel Defense 1x7 twist lightweight upper, MOE furniture, BUIS. And it was close to $200 cheaper than the M&P after you have to pay tax & DROS. Not trying to knock the rifle at all, just presenting another option. You won't regret either choice!

How much did you pay for the Daniel Defense upper? I'm seeing them mostly in the $900 range. Also, what lower receiver did you use?

I got the upper from Smartgunner.com. They sell them minus the rail but they're rarely in stock. I got lucky.

I used a Del-Ton lower since I was originally going to go full DTI but ended up going with the DD upper.

well im liking all this feedback it sounds like a really good gun.
And the reason i have not thought about building one, is that i am not to knowledgable with these ar's

A friend of mine just got a MP Sport and loves it. I've had a chance to fondle it a little, the fit and finish was great for a $650 AR.

So ... are Orcs the next Zombies? Myself, I think I'd prefer something bigger than 5.56 against an Orc.
