I recently put an MOE handguard on my ar15 and after firing about 60 rounds it started to get really hot. Not to the point that I couldn't touch it but at the rate it heated up another 50 rounds and it would have been too hot to hold. Does anyone find this weird. I definitely wasn't firing slowly but it wasn't super fast. I prob shot off 60 rounds in 15-20 minutes.

I never had that issue on my previous rifle.

Hmm

Well I'll be firing off ~500 rounds this weekend I guess I'll just have to see what happens with it.

Did the metal heat shield fall out?

Is it black? Were you in the sun? Imagine how much hotter a black aluminum forend would have gotten.

Truth and statistics: How do they work?

The aluminum RAS would have started and ended cooler than the MOE.

But, but... tuna quesadilla! You mean to say that Magpul products aren't made with pixie dust and Costa blood? Say it ain't so.

tonelar - The KAC RAS is a railed forend. According to the test and chart it cools off faster and tansmits less heat.

Oh, right. Rails are alluminum too. I was thinking more along the lines of aluminum free float tubes and the like.

Quick questions. Where did you get it, and does it have a heat shield in it. The reason I ask is because Magpul also makes an airsoft version that has no metal heat shield in it. It is the same line that includes those MBUS sights you see on ebay and other places for $15-20 less than they cost at other places. Slimeballs will sell them as the real thing, even though they are crappy chinese airsoft equipment.

Any other problem with rifle? Gas tube leaking? Shooting on a particular hot day?

We've only run a MOE one day, approx. 80F at a TASC class with Stan at Prado a couple weeks ago. ~640rds, no issues no probs...no mags dumps or barrel-smokin' antics though. Will continue running it a bit.

Interesting to read from others about knock-offs and perhaps a missing shield? Wondering what you might have found?

Have fun and be safe this weekend. :)
