Ok ws alot of you know i go thru AR's like some people change socks lol.
Anyways i picked up this baby today, drove it home loaded 12mags up took it out back and let her rip.
All ammo used was wpa steel case.
She let them all rip with out a hiccup.
I proceeded to check accuracy and at 100 yards was blowing coke cans up.
Trigger sux but im gna switch it out for something nicer.
After 300 rounds i had zero issues with the steel cased ammo. Good accuracy and the upgraded bolt release is very nice.
i will update this thread at 1k rounds, 2k rounds and 5k rounds.
Anyone who is thinking of buying a $1k + ar should really consider the s&w mp15.
Btw this is my second mp15 and ive regretted trading my last ne ever since i drosd it out of my safe.
It aint gna take the place of my ak74 but im definitely keeping this one!
Heres pic.

Nice! I've been thinking about my next AR (what to build), and I think I'm just going to pick one of these up! Hear nothing but good things about it, just like it's little brother: the 15-22.

I have been thinking about getting another AR to "upgrade" from my Sport, but honestly it would NOT be worth the money. I have around 2k rounds of every type of ammo I could get my grubby little hands on and not a single FTF. I love shooting irons and I hate shooting from the bench, so I'm not sure exactly what it's capable of accuracy wise, but it has way more potential than I do at the moment! I am still running mine in original configuration and have no complaints. I think I'll just spend my money on more ammo instead of a higher "tier" AR decked out in magpul gear. Can't say enough good things about this rifle!

Here it is with my dad's 226

@p2rider426.
Lmao i didnt pay for this magpul stuff it came like this. As for sitting on a bench lmao aint no benchs in my backyard. And finally there aint no reason to upgrade. The s&w is a beast i ran my last one hard, in the 3weeks i had it i put about 3k rounds of steel thru it and never cleaned it only 1 fte. By ak standards it'd be thrown away but for an ar thats GREAT!!!!

You must not live in Oakley as stated in your location line. I don't know anywhere in Oakley you can shoot in your backyard  If so, my shop is in Brentwood and would love to drop by and dial in my sights on my AR :43:

Not that I need another ar-15, being I still have a colt in its grease wrapper I haven't fired yet...
but what makes the mp15 sport so damn cheap? Like holy crap cheap?
Is it more plastic than steel? Or is the barrel quality not chromelined?
Thanks

The barrel isnt chrome lined, s&w uses something called "mellonite?" Which is suppose to be as good or better than chrome. Whatever they do to it, its very reliable!

AFAIK, melonite is S&W's version of GLOCK's "tennifer"...

05-16-2012, 9:32 AM
It's cheap because it does not have a forward assist and dustcover. You do not need it if it is a range gun. It is not like you need to go to war right now. I miss my sport :(

Speedpower

Melonite is way better than Chromeline!

I picked up a sport and sadly I've only fired 22LR out of it with my CMMG conversion. I'm taking it to the outdoor range this weekend to put it through it's paces but aside from the trigger I loved playing with it at the indoor range.

Not to thread jack but I've considered a Giselle trigger, just hard to justify spending that kind of money on a $650 gun. I really just want to smooth the trigger out. I was able to pull the trigger on my SKS and send it out and it came back with a much smoother/predictable pull. I'm looking for something similar with the M&P15...anyone have any luck with this particular rifle?

@lifeon2whls.
Bud doesnt matter that the rifles base price is $650 id upgrade this thing way faster than 90% of all the highend ar's ive owned in the past that were TURDS!!!

I love mine, but I cannot get it to run steel ammunition of any kind without a FTE/FTF every 10/20 rounds... Nobody else seems to have this problem.

@dillion.
Have you checked your gasblock or gas key?

AK all day

What exactly do you check on it? These have a gas key?

In two months you'll have sold this one and bought another one and still like your 74 better

NorCalK9.com

I'll always like the 74 better lol. I prefer 545 over 556 but i do love the m&p ar's

we have sold hundreds of these and never... never had one come back.. they are awesome and all of our customers have loved them!!

osis32
05-16-2012, 12:58 PM
Are the ballistics better or the price point what makes 545 better to you?

NorCalK9.com
05-16-2012, 1:07 PM
Why i prefer 545. This is only my experience.
545x39
1060rounds $140.
556.
500rounds $120
545.
less recoil.
545 medium distance 150-250 yards wound infliction beats surplus 556.
Under 100 yards 556 wins.
Both arenaccurate.
Both are lite.
Both have similar ballistics.
So above reasons is why i like 545 over 556.
Also the ar feels bad in my hands where as MY ak74 feels perfect in my hands.
I also shoot better with my ak74.

Okay, so what exactly do I "adjust" on it. It doesn't appear to move in any way.

NorCalK9.com

Then its fine. My friends ar was having probs with ejectin cause his gas key wasnt staked and was reaaaal loose.

So it's mostly price. I'm building a 74 next after I finish the mini Draco.

I'm not worried about damage I've had some pretty nasty gas lately.

This is a good choice for home defense for the same reason i think a Glock is. Surrendering a $700 S&W hurts a lot less than a $1500 PredatAR.

Has anyone scoped one of these sport models and checked accuracy from a bench rest.

Are all of them carbines (does that = sport?) or do they come mid-length also?

Mine is scoped but I only zereod it in at 25 yards,as I was pressed for time.

Next weekend I'm spending many many hours shooting and tweaking in all my guns, so I can answer your question better then. I'm going to re-zero it at 50 yards or maybe 100 or 75 I dunno. I'm thinking 50. The benchrest will be sandbags, my tailgate and a chair LOL

If I got one of these, I'd probably put a scope on it. Good question.

Reason i ask cause if i can hit coyotes out at 400 yards n less i may just have no choice but to keep it lol.

I had the M&P15OR before I sold it (stupidest thing I've ever done in my life *facepalm*), wicked reliable, durable, and accurate. Threw my dad's Nikon 3-9x40 on it and was nailing 12" targets at 600 yards easy peasy holding a 3.5" group with SMK match ammo (wish i had the photos to show you guys). My dad also has the same rifle (geardo'd out of course) and it's by far the best frikin bang for your buck IMHO. Never had a single problem with either of them and would buy again if I weren't doing a custom build.

even alot of rifles that cost hundreds more cant compare with the sport model. Out of all my ar's this is the only one that gets good reviews from me.
Ohh and 1 of the rra ones i had was real good too.
