short story, they admitted to muling the ammo, picked it up from the gunstore and were being paid 500 to deliver it somewhere, guessing the somewhere was south of the border.. which is what makes it illegal.

So we know that illegal aliens have no 2A rights because they are illegal. But what about ammo? It seems from the sketchy story (a more complete version of this story is on Reuters) that they were muling the ammo, which is obviously not good but I just wonder about the legality of illegals having ammo?

California regulates one handgun per month. So it does in fact regulate how many. The feds regulate how many cold & allergy pills I can buy at one time. It sucks but it is what it is.

If having 27k rounds of anything was illegal, a bunch of us would be in trouble.

27000 rounds are not illegal, it's what you do with them...

Garcia-Perguero and Rodriguez-Olivio told investigators they had picked up the ammo from a Laredo gun store. Prosecutors say the pair expected to be paid about $500 to deliver the items to a designated pickup spot.

The second Obama gun rush is in full swing. How did they find a store with 27,000 rounds in stock?!

According to this article:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/14/us-usa-crime-ammunition-idUSBRE84D1FE20120514?feedType=RSS

Garcia-Perguero and Rodriguez-Olivio admitted they picked up the ammunition and Glock bullet magazine from a local gun shop and were going to deliver them to another person waiting outside a strip club, Magidson said. They expected to receive between $400 and $500 for transporting the ammo.

Each faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a maximum $250,000 fine for possessing the large ammo cache.

Still no mention of intending to cross the border with the ammunition. Maybe there is some idiotic precedent that possessing the ammunition is equivalent to possessing a gun and they were nailed by 922(g).

Maybe I should leave now - too much of a good thing can get one in trouble.

Yahoo had an article about this that said they had a Glock pistol as well. In one sentence it said they had 50 rounds of ammunition for the Glock and in another it said something to the effect of them having a "50 bullet magazine" for the Glock. The last sentence said they face up to 10 years each and a $250k fine for "posession of the ammo cache".

If possession of an ammo cache is illegal, than we are all in trouble.

So.... IS there a law limiting the amount of ammo a person can have? I don't want to go to prison for having a "cache".

It's really annoying when people repeat these statements after just reading the title, and not the whole thread. Even a single round makes it illegal if the person is prohibited. Non-immigrants (illegals, students, temporary workers, etc) are not allowed to possess guns and/or ammo unless they fall into an exempt category, such as possession of a valid hunting license.

Left side - middle.

nonimmigrant aliens can not buy or possess ammo. Max of 10 yrs.

So 1 round or 1000 is doesn't matter. Firearms too. Magazines aren't specifically mentioned so I have no idea why that is included in the article.

The 2A does not reference citizens.

The 2A does not reference citizens.

Is it a long standing prohibition ? Is the intermediate scrutiny allowed for a less than law abiding person ? So here you go... ;)

I imagine it depends on where you live. It's always possible for the local fire department to have something to say about how much flammable stuff you can have around, and how it must be stored.
