Hi, all-

I have about a 25-year old Remington 870 Express with the standard wooden stock and forearm, and I plan to take a tactical shotgun course at a well-known training facility.

They require the shotgun to have a sling.

Can anyone recommend how I can inexpensively and easily set it up for a sling? I'm not terribly mechanical and would prefer not to hire a 'smith to do this.

I'd appreciate recommendations for this. I already have a sling-just need product recommendations, etc. for the attachments to the firearm.

Thanks in advance.

mesa tactical or gg&g sling attachments of your choice. both extremely easy to put on and use.

hayaku-
Thank you. I am looking into your recommendations. Apparently some of your recommendations substitute the magazine cap out but what about the rear of the firearm? Sorry, pretty ignorant about these things.

I've already used the trigger group screws to mount a TactStar mag holder on the left side of the shotgun, so Mesa Group will not work, but I haven't looked deeply at what they have to offer. My lack of knowledge is embarrassing.

There's no stud on the base of this firearm. I don't see how I could attach a 2-point sling, but Blackhawk makes a 'Lok-Down Sling Swivel'. I'm curious if they just 'lok' on to whatever they're attached to, be it a stud or just the base of the firearm. I'm really not looking into doing any machining, etc.

i have the GG&G mounts on my 870. the rear one fits between the rear stock and reciever. great mount by the way.

I use a buttstock sling adapter like this from Midway on my 590A1. I like it because it puts the mount on top of the stock.

Here is my concern: how am I going to fit the GG&G rear mount with the Tacstar presence depicted? Can I mount it on the right side of the receiver?
I do shoot left-handed.

It goes between the stock and receiver. Your shell holder does not go back that far.

You can get a right side too.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread thus far. I really do appreciate it, and look forward to other suggestions. However, I am leaning toward this GG&G setup...seems as if it might suit my purposes.

just make sure when you order you get the correct one, the models go by your dominant side not what side the ring is on.

Not quite sure what you mean there, Mongoblack23. I am a left-handed shooter.

I use the blackhawk 3 points sling, did not require a sling attach device.

Any comments on this sling? Appears to be similar to the BH mentioned above:

then you will most likely want the ring on the right side of the shotgun. when you order, where ever you order from, make sure you order the left handed version. if you go with the GG&G front mount as well, it is ambidextrous. the only reason i mention it is because some sites had them listed differently. it would be listed as a left hand mount (which is for a right handed shooter), instead of just listing it as a sling mount for right handed shooters.

i actually have that sling as well on my AR. its a good sling. slides when it needs to and holds when it should. good quality snaps and sewing as well.

Thank you for your comments. If I did not need a sling for the tactical course, I would not buy one. The weapon is my HD gun of choice, and I do not anticipate nor have I used a sling when I have it nestled hidden behind a drape against a wall by my bed. And I haven't hunted for years.

Get me to thinking that perhaps a temporary 3 point sling might be more appropriate.

So, I would also welcome comments re 3 point sling propriety and dependability for purposes of a tactical shotgun course.

OTOH, after successfully completing a course or two I might prefer that a sling remain....hhhmmmm, decisions decisions.... :-)

Are you referring to the 3 point sling above your post that was contained in the amazon.com link that I provided?

Hi Mongoblack23, in that sling that you have pictured in the Amazon link above, is the grey thread in the webbing rubber coated?

yeah, it provides the right amount of friction to stay put when it needs but slide when you want it too. at least in my case.

Keeping in mind there are no sling attachments, studs, swivels, bars, etc. on the firearm, would that sling referred to securely mount on the firearm?

I'm thinking about it or the Blackhawk Swift Sling.

Any comments from anyone about either or both-keeping in mind the lack of sling attachments on the firearm?

Of interest, Here's a video on the Blackhawk Swift Sling:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwgk-7lEv1s&list=FLHQe09bbL-4d5eiPK4-SpLw&index=3&feature=plpp_video
It's a good video, but I haven't found it of much help to me unless you watch it at end-deals with para cords as an alternative. And I still have doubts...I just don't want to buy one or the other and get frustrated about it or seek a return.

Still don't know whether to get this or the UAG one in the amazon link here:
http://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Detatch-3-Point-Multi-Functional-Rifle-Shotgun-Gun-Weapon/dp/B003UNG1G6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

And in the photo, it appears the front part of the sling is tied on to the front sight of an M4/M16.

How do you attach it to a shotgun that doesn't have sling attachments by the front end? Is it that para cord setup as contained in the youtube video (see post directly above this one)?

And is yours attached to a shotgun, or other?

Thanks. Thought I recognized it. It's the same webbing used on Haselblad camera straps.

Where does the GG&G front sling attachment go? I only have a regular magazine tube and an 18" barrel on the 870.

I decided upon the Blackhawk Swift Sling. Then, I might purchase the GG&G sling attachments for the 870, but will first check out the sling and report back.

the one between the stock and the receiver is the way to go adds nearly no length and good solid set up
