After long contemplating what first shotgun I want to get I have decided to get a Remington 870 Police Magnum. I like the normal 870 but the better parts and quality control on the Police 870's is what sold me. If I buy one I plan to do the whole works to it and add a magazine extension, a sure fire flashlight, a Houge tactical stock, a saddle shell holder, and finally a sling. My question is will all these attachments make the weapon to cumbersome and awkward? Also though I do not plan to use it that much for trap or skeet will I be able to hit the targets somtimes as I dont want to purchase another barrel?

Don't pay for the Police hype! The Police & Express are the exact same shotgun, only difference is the Police has a stronger plunger spring & Steel extractor ($25 I believe) Both can be had through Remington/Midway/Brownells...ect. No brainer, took all of 15 min to do!

My thanks to Aippi for the info!

Call me a sucker but the extra couple of $$$ spent on the police magnum for the name and the $25 worth of parts is worth it to me. I also like how if people come up to me at the range I can say that the LAPD uses this shotgun. :)

Thank you for showing me where I am going to buy my first shotgun. Now I have to start saving.

Don't worry too much about the mag extension, looks cool but if you leave more than 4 in the tube for an extended period, the shells will tend to squish and widen causing feeding issues.

I just like the mag extension because it allows for more shells to be shot before reloading and not knowing how the current government is I would not be suprised in a few years if fixed tube capacity on a shotgun is restricted.

Aippi is the man for 870 shotguns, mine performs flawlessly. Read his comment in the thread directly above yours.

I am going to remove the shell saddle from my dream shotgun, I took a look at his website and his Police III model caught my eye. I like the how the stock also includes a place to store two rounds in case of emergency.

What is the difference between the 870 police and the 870 police magnum?
