Cool, man! I know what is like to get a "outlawed" gun in Kali. I just put a XDm i jail myself. When you get the Ruger post some pics and a range report. Also you can just add the ambi as your locale smith. If you're in Oceanside on Mondays a good smith is there.

Range report and pics will definitely be inbound ASAP. Only 9.5 days to go, but who's counting?

I love mine. About 500 rds thru, no ftf's or fte's. Nice trigger. Took me a while to get used to the sights, don't use a 6 o'clock hold. Put the ft. dot on the target. Other than that, it's a great gun. Thanks Fubar!!

Are these available to civilians? Or are they not on the CA approved list

These are off roster. You would have to SSE or get one used in a PPT.

Congrats - I don't have any 1911's but wish this was on roster.

Have had great luck with Ruger... and it has a really nice look... :)

EDIT: And a lefty - if it doesn't come with ambi - are you getting one aftermarket or does Ruger sell them?

This is like the 2nd best bang for back 1911 next to sig 1911s.

Oh man. All my pistols are 9mm (including a 1911) but if I came across the opportunity to score one of these, I'd break my rule about only owning 9mm semis.

Congrats, Bobby. Thanks for the review and pics. The Ruger SR1911 is hard to get nationwide not only in CA.

Take a shot of 9mm to the knee cap and tell me after if you still think it's for women.

take a shot with nearly any caliber to the kneecap and ask yourself the same question.

A 9 mm may expand but .45 certainly doesn't shrink!

Personally i'd rather have the biggest hole possible when it comes to saving my family's life

We agree. Which is why my pistols will be a last resort. And since they are last resorts/back up firearms, I'm going to stick with something cheaper to shoot.

And you can always make the argument for 1 bigger. If you're going to go 9mm, you might as well go .45acp. If you're going to go .45, you might as well go 10mm or .357 mag. And since we're talking about revolver calibers, I'm pretty sure .44 and .50s make bigger holes. Ah heck why not a 7.62 Draco. Why stop there?

For me, 9mm is the cheapest caliber that will do the job I intend for it. For some people it's the .45 acp. And to those people I say live and let live.

Thanks Bart. There are lots of nice 1911's out there but none at the price point of the SR1911.

Congrats!

I picked up my SR1911 this past Sat too. :cool2: My first 1911 in .45ACP! Did a basic field strip, cleaned and oiled. Only fired 100 rnds of Fed Champions FMJ through it so far and had 2 Failure to feeds. Both fails were loading the first round in and both from the same included 8rnd mag.

At first I thought it was me weak racking the slide back (I still think this was the case) and the second was when I just hit the slide release to load the first rnd. The issues only happened within the first 20-40 rnds. My next box of 50 went through much too quickly, and without a hitch.

I hope that every thread I create ends with an irrelevant sidebar about the theories of "knockdown power". I hope that the opposing arguments are carried into cyber battle valiantly by brave internet knights who deftly wield their knowledge of '9mm vs .45' .

Knowledge.... hard won knowledge... that which can only be sought from the great halls of gun wisdom.. (I.e. gun shows, gun magazines, the internet, cable tv shows, your Uncle or buddy who used to be a cop somewhere, etc)

Meanwhile, back in the real world, people will carry 9mm's, .45's, and a host of other calibers into real life harm's way (Not the Xbox live version) and all of these calibers will perform as well or as badly as the person wielding them. I would fear a capable, trained, motivated enemy armed with (insert any caliber/weapon here) far more than some internet bloviator and his >.02 opinion which is usually based on a stack of S.W.A.T. magazines piled in his sh*tter.

we left off where everyone was admiring your new purchase!

Let me say....that if you EVER decide to sell this, can I be first on the list to PPT? This is at the top of my list to purchase but of course I can't since I am just a regular ol civilian!

Not that they need them but have you thought of getting some new grips? Just picked up some Silverblack Diamond Grips for mine ...

Soul_Cal,

Those grips look great, especially with the factory logo. I am pretty partial to the cocobolos that mine came with, esp since they are getting ambi-cut at the GS.
