Hi !

I am 28 and I am from Switzerland.

I am a shooter and a gun collector and own approx 30 guns. this goes from 1847 Colt walker replica to a DoD Stamped Colt M4 (M16A1 lower) , and of course my Swiss issued SiG550.

I started collecting western era replicas (Uberti's 1866s, 1873s, henry, Quigley Sharps, SAA) but I ended up collecting whatever throw lead at a significant speed :)

My last buy is that M4, and since it is my second, I will now transform my 1st one (XR-15 M4 SDI, semi only) into a mk18mod0 replica.

I was introduced to this forum by a member, on AR15.com , and also heard about it on THR.

I'm sure I'll find many interesting things to read in here.

^regards,

Olav

I joined the site today. Lots of interesting information. I grew up in California and was raised to respect guns, but not be afraid of them. I've been told I'm a good target shooter, but really I just do target shooting occasionally and my youngest daughter is now expressing an interest in guns. I look forward to passing onto her what I know about gun safety and a healthy respect for gun ownership.

I have recently started shooting guns, which was much easier to get into than in my native Holland! Got this site recommended from a colleague, who's name here I don't know. Enjoy a lot of the reads on this forum! Got my mind set on my first gun, which is likely to be a p226 :) I am sure I will let you all know what it turns out to be...

Hey there everyone. First a little about myself. I'm a 20 year old college student from the San Fernando Valley. I got into guns because of my dad and have started studying all I can about them and collecting old surplus military rifles. I found this website while searching for info on owning an SKS in California. I'm looking forward to learning much more.

Hi,

New guy here. I've actually been surfing this site for some time now...just got caught up reading all the threads before I could even introduce myself. Nice site...lots of info. A little history of myself...at least firearms wise...My first rifle was a Ruger 10\22 from my pops. My cousins introduced me to the black rifle and gave me an intro on what needed to be done to make it legal. Found this website and fed off all the info you guys provide. Thanks! So I acquired me a LCW-15 and built my 2nd rifle...an AR-15. Took me a year to acquire all the parts because I collected bottles and cans to save money for this build! Don't worry, I didn't have to dig through dumpsters...I had a lot of daily donations from work and the apt. complex I used to live at. 3rd firearm was a Beretta 21A I got on consignment just 3 weeks ago...pristine condition in box w/ manual, never been fired...$175. Now...I'm trying to go through the hoops in acquiring an AR pistol. Thanks everyone....and Help! :)

Been lurking for quite a while now and finally joined a little over a week ago; figured it was about time I got sociable and introduced myself...

I've been shooting since I was very young, although in deference to my wife I took a long break after my kids were born. They're shooting now, and have shot .22s rifles, 12ga shotguns and .50 muzzle loaders over the last few years. Lately I've been teaching them how to use handguns.

I'm definitely a no-frills guy as far as guns go; I like simple paired with enough range time to maintain my marksmanship/skill (to the extent I can call them that). For years my primary handgun was a S&W Model 19 Combat Magnum (.357, 6" barrel), which was replaced by a Glock 17 ~14-15 years ago. I still own the S&W, just don't shoot it as much anymore. I've also owned a Mossberg 146B .22 rifle for most of my life and will be adding a new Big5 Mossberg 500A shotgun combo later this week.

Look forward to seeing you on the boards.

Hello All - just wanted to check in as I've been browsing the site for a week or so now, and just got approved to post. Just a fellow gun owner and gun lover from Southern California.

Stopped by the gun show last weekend in Ontario. Picked up a couple of CMMG stripped lowers from my buddy Adam over at Cold War Shooters. It will be my second AR-15 build once I decide exactly the kind of AR-15 I want. I also own:
Ruger 10/22
XD40 Service Model
Sig P239 40 S&W
AR-15 (Doublestar lower, Del-ton Upper)
Remington 870

Hope to see you all around.

Hey, I am the new guy...(insert laughs and jeers)..ok, thats out of the way. I am new to owning a gun and have been attempting to make them since I was 3...out of wood, which Is why I grew up to be a carpenter. I just "discovered" the exhilaration of shooting. You know, pulling the trigger, feeling the blast of the gunpowder, destroying a little rubber troll your mother gave you for christmas when you were six instead of what you really wanted (laser tag), and you kept it anyway because it was a gift that never got played with and ended up lasting a lot longer than you thought because it got stuck in storage..and you discoverd it while looking for targets on the day you purchased your first real gun (twelve gauge, coach shotgun). Now that we are all on the same page, my second gun is an all american GSG 5 (well maybe not ALL american). I hear that all you guys just love them!(Sarcasm) I have played airsoft since my dad bought me a bb gun when I was twelve (back then we used metal instead of plastic bbs). My first plastic shooter was an MP5 look-a-like, hence the purchase of GSG 5. Ok, enough..I also own an RRA lower-soon to be rifle. So Hello, and thanx for reading.

Just a quick intro. Moved here a few months ago after getting married, been reading up on some of the pure idiocy spewed out as "gun laws" here in CA, and went looking for a place that pretty much gathered everything together in a somewhat easy way to understand. Only took me about a week or two of mostly very lazy searching to happen upon calguns.net, but now that I have, I'm quite happy. Still have TONS of questions, but I do tend to search before asking. Just need to win a lottery or something so I can actually get everything I want.

Hello all. I am a socal area resident, and recently began my first OLL "build" upon researching and finding that such things are indeed legal.

I am a fed. LEO, and have been busy "educating"my LEO coworkers and friends. I know that I had no knowledge of the "legality" of OLL's until I saw one in a shop while purchasing another item, and then found CALGUNS.NET and researched some more.

I don't have any experience in "building" beyond basic stuff for pistol and shotgun upkeep. Hope to to find answers to questions I have here on the site.

I lurked for awhile, and must say that the site has been very helpful. Thanks.

Hi everyone. A guy named barry (don't know his s/n) told me about this place when I met him at Oak Tree Gun Club in newhall, ca.... Been surfing around here for the past few hours in absolute awe of some of firearms and photography skill!.

I have a few Shotguns and Rifles but now am looking to get into handguns. Been taking my fathers revolvers to the range but neither one feel like "Me"... one is a S&W .38 special and an old .22 Ruger revolver. Spending more time at the range im looking for one of my own.

Im a 26 and a Truck driver in the Motion picture industry. Been with my girl for 5 years who also enjoys going to the range and gonna grab her a Beretta Neo .22 6" (her favorite rental) soon.

Anyhow... just thought I would introduce myself.

Guess this is where I should have posted my first hello message. I've been a lurker for longer than I've been a member. I live in the Bay Area so, I hope to meet some of my fellow shooters at some of the local ranges here. I also drive a Land Cruiser, so I may already know some of you from my other hobbies. I don't have a great many firearms, but I am slowly increasing my collection. I have a TTR (Tactical Take Down Rifle) from HS Precision in 300WM, S&W 500 Magnum 8 3/4" revolver, Ruger Mk3, Benelli M1014 Shotgun with the now banned skeletonized stock, and several other various caliber semi-auto pistols.
I do all of my own reloading on my trusty RCBS rockchucker, but my boss recently gave me a Dillon RL450 that I will probably upgrade to a RL550 in the near future.

Well, thats about it, I hope to be able to contribute something to the forums. I've thoroughly enjoyed the time I've spent lurking and reading all the various posts here.

so, nice to meet you all.

Hello everyone,

My first post here on calguns. I have been a long-time shooter, starting at the ripe old age of ten years old, and I still enjoy a good day at the range. I own a variety of blackpowder rifles, bolt guns, pistols, and a few autoloaders. My newest purchase is an AR15 with Stag lowers and LMT uppers, which will hopefully arrive soon.

Which leads me to the question- has anyone else here dealt with LMT before? I ordered my uppers on Oct 30, and they still have not shipped. Is this wait normal, or should I give them a call?

Thanks in advance, and I'm excited to be a member of the forum!

Hello all, just thought to say hi! I am a recently avid shooter, though have owned guns for years. I have competed, albeit poorly, in IDPA and do take a couple of training classes per year. My father is also a retired lifer in the Army, before going into civil service and a Viet Nam vet, a former hunter (too sick to hunt these days) and all my cousins are hunters and shooters of one sort of another. I'm transplanted from the mid-wes 'lo these last 20 years.

Sup guys Gio here from the East Bay Area!!! I am a soon to be gun owner myself, my dad has several .22LR rifles and my grandpa's old military issue Colt 38. I am still somewhat new to guns in general so take it easy on me :D I recently purchased a Kimber Custom II 1911 .45 from a local gun shop and I am due to pick it up this Friday the 21st at 5PM w00t! I also ordered 2 Sun Devil lowers.

So yeah, besides guns I like cars of all types. I drive a nicely modded 2004 Subaru WRX STi. I also like my RC Cars as well, I have 2 Team Associated 1:10 scales cars. Well one is a truggy and the other is a tarmac racer turned drft car :)

I plan on building up my AR's with 16" kits, possibly using 4 Rail handguards, or just using the regular hand guards and then modding them as I get more into them. But for now at least I will have them before the ban if indeed AW's get banned here in Kommiefornia :(

Oh yeah thanks to Karleric for telling me to join up here, also I would like to say hi to DLouie87 as well, sup my STi buddies :D

Hello Everyone. I am new to this site and am excited to learn as much as possible about guns and gun laws. A majority of my friends own guns and have wanted me to buy one for quite some time. My excuse for the longest time was that I have nothing to protect but now that I am a homeowner I jumped at the chance to buy one. My first gun, which I got about 2 months ago, is a Smith and Wesson 4506 (.45 cal). I love that gun and am now interested in creating my own AR-15 in which I have friends that are there to guide me. I look forward to learning as much as possible from everyone here. Thanks.

Hello-

My name is John.
I've handled and shot handguns, rifles, and shotguns for most of my life.
Years ago and for quite a few years back then I'd been very enthusiastic about practical/tactical shooting and the associated disciplines and sports.
I've shifted in my interest in the past few years though and now my primary interest is big game hunting, mainly within the confines of our great state.

I have 'devolved' to the use of simple side-by-side double rifles, I rarely ever even look through a telescopic sight, and much of the shooting I'm doing is with transitional era early cartridge rifles - of the pinfire cartridge type.
I have central fire sporting rifles, some of them are even bolt guns, but my main thrill comes from getting high grade sporting rifles from the mid 19th century running and running well, and taking them out against bear, boar, and deer here on the coast.

I look forward to engaging with y'all here and getting in on the conversation.
Here's to the fun of it all!

Cheers
John

Hi folks.
I'm new to the forum. I'm a veteran, former commercial truck driver, former security for Vanderbilt family, the list goes on... :)

Now I'm a college student finishing up and English and a Philosophy degree, with my eye on teaching here in CA, and unfortunately, I'm having to assemble a CA-legal gun collection instead of simply importing my guns from WA. What a drag.

I have been shooting a hell of a lot more trap than usual, though...

Howdy!
An interesting, informative forum you have here.
Been here in the Bay Area for the last 25 years, and have done a little shooting here, but no where near what I did when I was much younger.
Gun poor thanks to the ex-wife...:( She did like to gamble and she liquidated my collection to pay off her debts.
I never did find out where they went.
Happily married - finally.:)
Time to go shooting again.
There's a few people I know on here that shoot regularly, and it's time to join in on the fun.

Hey guys. I'm new to owning handguns. But, do enjoy the one I have. (I'm originally from NYC. So, as bad as CA may seem to you, compared to NYC, it might as well be TX, when it comes to gun ownership.)

I only have a SIG Mosquito right now. I wanted to start small, and enjoy the frequent trips to the range due to low .22LR ammo cost. BUT...I'm already hooked, and am currently looking for a SIG Pro 2022 to add a 9mm to my beginner's collection. Then, it'll be a .40, and after that, a .45. (Yes. It HAS to be in that order. Kind of an OCD way to start a collection, I know.)

If anybody is interested in selling a 9mm SP2022, or, if you have seen one in a shop, or know of anyone who might be interested in selling theirs, please shoot me a PM.

Thanks guys. Great forum.

Long time reader, first time poster. Been to the LA Gun Club recently to see what handguns I like (shot the Springfield XD-9, HK USP, Sig P229, Glock 19, and Walther P99 -- I liked the Springfield and Sig the most). At the sametime, I took and passed (aced) the HSC so now I have that available :). Just looking to see what else I can find and possibly pick up a new firearm soon.

Background - don't have any guns right now, but my dad used to work for the Sacramento County Sheriff's dept so I'm familiar with firearms and have always used and trained with them. Now that I've finally gotten around to some spare time and getting my HSC, I'm looking to pick up a couple of handguns for HD and possibly a rifle for some range play (GSG-5, as I've found them locally for $495 & in stock at a couple of gun shops). I would consider picking up a CA-legal AR15 but the LA Gun Club won't allow .223 ammo used there, and right now that's the closest and most convenient range for me.

Ahoy, lads. New to the forums, just started shooting this year, and really enjoy it. I wish I'd started earlier. Currently own a Beretta 96 Stainless and a Sig 226 .40. Italian styling and German engineering...how can you go wrong?

I will be requiring a 1911 soon though, I can feel it. That may open an entirely new vortex. We shall see.

I work in the visual effects segment of the entertainment industry, a sub society filled with cluless, sanctimonious yahoos in Priuses slathered with HOPE stickers. Yeah it pays well and the work is cool...but a lot of these people are truly asleep. Most of them believe in the manufactured left/right schism portrayed on television. A lot of them think Good Morning, America is news. Some of the men have purses. I s**t you not.

I endeavour to learn as much as I can here about firearms, the engineering of them, and the discipline of shooting. The internet is the last hope for truth to be spread among the somnambulist masses, so I like to keep my TV off and my eyes--and options--open.

I'm located up above Oroville within short range of the Lake. We are a shooting family including Mom and Dad that grew up with guns in their paws and are passing the tradition on to the kids. So far Dad is an NRA life member, but we're starting both kids on EPL (Easy Pay Life) plans.

Dad (that's me) is also planning on getting into reloading and picked up a Lee's kit. Currently reading everything I can get my hands on related to reloading and snatching up every piece of brass I can get my hands on.

Howdy, Y'all. I guess I'm the latest newby. I'm a southern sacramentan. Been shootin irons since the ripe old age of 11 (never got round to the plastics). Got started with a friend that took me hunting ducks and grew from there. I'm the only one who shoots out of my immediate family, but I'm changing that with every girlfriend and person I befriend (especially those that don't like guns).

I used to hunt anything that flies but stopped that many years ago. Lookin' to get back into the outdoors and hunting again. Especially the 4-legged kind... never done that. I'll need help getting into that...

I also do alittle reloading for pistolas but I plan to get back into that along with rifle rounds this time. Any suggestions?

Be see'in ya on the threads.

I am currently waiting for my new S&W .357 model 686+ 7 shot with a 6" barrel. Seven days to go till I get to pick it up but worth the wait. Two of my fiends are long time gun owners and are giving me a good education on safety and basic knowledge of guns. Being a shop manager you have to think safety first so this will help me develop a good mind set for the safe handling of my firearm.

Been lurking around here for several months, and I find this firearms site truly informative about our Second Amendment rights. The amount of misinformation about firearms in the MSM is truly staggering, and we need to counter it with the facts. In addition, the firearms knowledge I find here has helped me make informed decisions on two firearms purchases so far - a Vector AK clone, and a Stag-15 Model 3.

I'm also a big fan of the USC Trojans too.

Great site!!! I've learned a lot in the last week lurking. I've been out of the sport a little over 12 years and just getting back into it. I grew up with guns plinking 22's with my dad. When I was younger my roomate worked at South Coast Gun Club. I used to shoot rifle and pistol a couple times a week. As I got older I started hunting more and shooting Trap. I still own a safe full of firearms and look foward to sharing them with my boys as they get older.

Thanks in advance for answering any dumb questions I might have. A lot has changed in the last 10 years.......................................

There are some pieces of hardware I am going to have to leave outside of the state, but oh well, not getting rid of them!

Greetings! I grew up in CA I went to school in San Jose. Lived in Santa Cruz and loved it but too many people towards the end. Before we left CA completely we lived in the Chico area, little to hot for my liking. Then about 6 years ago we moved to Montana. I love the pace of life here. I also got to meet my Second Amendment.

I've always liked guns but in CA it seemed they were to much of a hassle at the time. But here in Montana if you don't have small arsenal your just weird. So after my first mountain bike ride and getting chased by a moose several times I found out I was the idiot for not carrying a gun in the woods. It seemed everyone I talked to and I tried to make sure it was good cross section of people. That pretty much everyone carried some form of gun when they went into the woods.

So I haven't been back on my mountain bike since because I've been enjoying the freedom of purchasing, owning, shooting and now carrying concealed. Why CCW well because I can! America is a great place now it seems we'll be moving back to the country of California.

I'm sad and happy all at the same time. I miss the weather and riding both bicycle and motorcycle there. Don't get me wrong the 3 1/2 hours of summer are beautiful here but the rest of the time is pretty much snow and I have no interest in winter sports. Living in the Bay Area we went to Tahoe every year and only once did we go in the winter. Both my wife and I are summer people. But the amount of people, traffic, long waits at restaurants and time wasted trying to park to do anything else got to be a bit much.

In Bozeman you want to go out to eat you get to come home change out of work clothes if you want. Then go to the restaurant wait on average 20 minutes then get seated. You want to go to the movies you find out the show time arrive 10 to 20 minutes before the showing get in line behind the 8th to 10th person and get your ticket and see the movie. And that's opening weekend for a block buster. Wait a couple of weeks and you'll have the theater almost to yourself.

Anyway thanks for listen. I look forward to meeting you all online and maybe in some cases in real life maybe at the range. My next post will be about my gun woes in order to move back.

something went wrong with my first two attempts to register with calguns, but i seem to have gotten it squared away this time.

my venue of weapons is fixated on the genre known as "black powder" which includes everything from the .22 caliber derringers up to the 20lb napoleon cannons used until the war of 1812 (these would be the muzzle loading type i refer to), and all the accoutraments that go with the sport.

feel free to ask me questions directly; if i don't know the answer, i can certainly find someone who does. it's great fun to see the blast of fire and smoke pouring out of your .44 caliber iron, and even more so when you actually hit the target. many ppl i know shoot both modern and bp so don't hesitate to expand your horizons and join the club - national muzzle loading rifle association or the new san francisco muzzle loading revolver association [www.groups.yahoo.com/group/sfmlra].

see ya' on the boards !

Well, I've been lurking/reading for a while since I registered. Just realized I hadn't formally done an intro yet so here goes.

Lifetime shooter, grew up with firearms and dirtbikes (as the song says, "It's a family tradition"). Dad tells me that when I was young while we still lived in Utah that I would not eat hamburger unless it was cut with venison ;-). Recently got re-excited about shooting when I won a raffle (traded in the value and got what I really wanted: stainless Mini-14 Ranch in 6.8SPC). My wife, who also has been a lifetime shooter has also gotten more excited, must be because of the Glock 35 and Buckmark she recently received as gifts from me and her parents ;-).

Anyways, lots of good knowledge here I can already see. I look forward to attending one of the Panoche days soon and meeting y'all :seeya::cheers2:.

Not only do I continue to educate myself for my daily profession I also train out at Front Sight Nevada to learn more and more about firearms and tactics. I am a lifetime member at Front Sight and I can't say enough about them. Fricken awesome... :D

Hello everyone!

Im from Orange County and I have been using this forum as a resource since i acquired my first firearm 4 months ago.

I have since been the proud owner of S&W M&P9, mossberg 500, remington 870, remington 1100, benelli nova and in 4 more days a marlin rifle.

I am looking forward to my first AR type weapon and my first 1911 style pistol..

I cant wait...

Newbie here, but I've been a shooter for my whole life. Been lurking here for a few weeks and decided to introduce myself. Born and raised in California, and after a brief 2 year escape to a free state (NV), I'm back. Had a nice AR while I was in Nevada, but I had to sell it before I moved back. Luckily, I still have a pre-2000 registered AR that never left the state, so I'm still good. Planning on making a couple new purchases in the not too distant future. A Rem 700 to make into a long range shooter, a new upper for the AR and possibly an M1A.

Welcome back to CA! I just recently shopped around for a Remington 700 too, so if you want to chat about it, we can start a discussion in the rifleman's forum or one of the other relevant forums and get some feedback from the entire crew - if you need.

Hi All,

I've been lurking on the site and reading for the past few weeks...and finally decided to join. I don't own a gun yet, but am in the market. I'll probably start off with a Walther P22 to learn the basics, then graduate up to a Walther P99 (if I can find one one day here in Los Angeles).

Anyways, I hope to be a regular here and hope you will bear with me as I get accustomed to being a gun owner (I'm sure I'll have lots of questions). Thanks for reading!

I think the thrill of putting it together yourself is worth something and would prefer to build my own if given the option. You may save money by building your own if you shop carefully for the parts, too. Why not create an Excel spreadsheet to compare the two options and see which one comes out ahead - and determine if assembling one is within your skill level and interest level?

Hi, Everyone. My name is Adam. I just registered at the Crossroads of the West Gun Show at the Cow Palace. It was my first gun show and I have to say it was great to meet some nice people and get to learn a few new things. It is good to know that California has a large community who knows about and values the right to bear arms.

Like a lot people these days I'm hoping to get an AR15. This is for primarily political reasons, but I'm guessing it would be fun to take to the range as well. :D

I'm a total gun noob. I've only fired a .38, a Glock20, 12 gauge shotgun, and a hunting rifle. I really enjoy shooting, but live in the very statist city of San Francisco so I am hoping to meet others in the area.

I can tell that this is an active community and I'm looking forward to participating.

Cheers!

Hey Slash, I'm a slow bolt guy shooting the cheap stuff. Some 30.06 on an old sporterized Columbian mauser.

Then a Marlin .35 Remington.

.45 ACP, .357Mag and 9mm.

I say cheap stuff because it does not go down range as fast as those hot rod EBR's.

Also about 2 years ago I discovered that my eyesight is not what it used to be. Mike Sage was kind enough to fire my rifles down range and prove the barrels were not bent.
If the target is more than 50 yards away I am better off running down there and poking a hole in it and save the ammo.

We'll see you out and about Slash, again welcome back.

Welcome aboard to all you new folks. So many coming on board anymore its difficult to get around and say 'Hey'.

We started that Calguns booth project about 3 weeks ago specifically to get the word out about Calguns and its mission. San Francisco, the Cow Palace was our first presentation.
wildhawker is the Norcal co-ordinator, Fastfinger is the Graphic Artist assembling the content for the pamphlet, Eric Mayer and his wife has the printing shop doing the banners and T-shirts and myself researching content, shopping for the polo shirts the volunteers were wearing and other stuff.

It was a project which judging by the amount of folks signing up was a success. We are planning to take the show on the road so if any of you new guys want to help out in some form raise your hand.
We have lots of things to do and projects in the hopper.

Regarding the forums, ask the questions, pay attention and bring up an arguemnt, don't be afraid to step in there speak your piece. A number of things have been accomplished because a Calgunner was fedupwithBS and wasn't going to take it anymore.

In the meantime get familiar with who your Assembly person is as well as your State Senator. You can start here (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=156196)and use it as a primer or refresher.

Sharpen up your pencils and hone your wits, its gonna be a fun time. And don't forget to send some lead downrange.

See you out and about,

Vick

Hi all! I've been a non-registered Calguns lurker for quite some time. So, here I am coming out of hiding :)

Simple things about me: I love my guns :D I'm a veteran and am currently in college through VA's vocational rehabilitation program. My husband is also a disabled veteran, but is currently rated unemployable by VA. We have an 8 year old daughter who we take to the range with us. She has her own little .22 rifle and it makes me proud to see her take such care with it in regards to safety, and be a pretty good shot to boot!

I have a ton of hobbies, but just one of them brought me here ;) I'm an avid supporter of the 2nd. Ammendment.... gee, ya' think? I'm not from California, and can't wait until I'm able to leave the state! I grew up in Wyoming.

Alrighy then... I'll stop the babble. I'm glad to be here.

Hello Calguns users. I'm brand new to the site, and looking forward to being educated by you folks about legal configurations of AR's. I've been working with an M4 for nearly a decade now, but have never owned an AR. California being my "home base" so to say, has been the primary reason for this. I have always been bummed about CA gun laws, but just caught wind of this bullet button, which has really made my day. I remember seeing an AR at the range with a sealed magazine well and thinking to myself "how did we Californians let it come to this". I never thought I had a chance at owning anything other than that abomination and gave up, until now. I'm in the process of buying all the parts for my AR. I wish I had of known about it sooner, but I'm happy to have found out at all. Thanks to RW54 for delivering the good news to me about the bullet button and this site. Hope to learn a lot from everyone. See you around. -JB

Vick

My pencil is sharp. I'm ready to go explore the forums. I have zero uppers. My first one is in the mail right now. To me owning an AR in a disgusting configuration, such as a sealed magazine well, which was the only legal means I knew of, was like bending over for the law makers and supporters of the gun laws we have today. What's the point of owning an upper if you can't attach it to a real lower? Even with the bullet button i feel a little violated. We have been reduced to 10 round fixed magazines, a bullet button, no semi auto rifle barrel less than 16 inches, no concealed carry unless you know somebody, are famous, have money, or are a criminal and don't observe laws. I can't even imagine what other rights or forefathers fought for that have been taken from us with little or no fight. If I were a good citizen I would know them all and would be fighting for them right now. By fight, I don't mean violent means. We need to educate people, and get the schools on track. Teachers brain wash kids in public schools with the idea that guns are bad and that they are used to kill children and police officers. I know, I'm a product of California public education. Thus I grew up with an unhealthy fear of guns. It's only going to get worse as these children get older and rights they are unaware of fade away with their sheepish support of laws that violate our constitutional freedoms. It's a sad time my friend. And I'm sick of people telling me "If you don't like it, move". I'm very tempted, but this is my home. I'm not going to be driven out, or stripped of my rights. I'll never go back to Canyon Sports of Martinez for countless reasons, but primarily because they gave me the "If you don't like it, get out" line. For every reason someone gives me to go to Canyon Sports, I'll give them 20 good reasons not to go there. It's worth the drive to go somewhere else. Like J&R Sports Supply in Livermore. Top notch costumer service. Extremely knowledgeable guys like Scot Holzschuh. It's a place to learn, and buy whatever you need, with out being disrespected and told to leave your home state. I'm on a rant. I'll save the rest for other forums. Thanks for the hospitality. See you around. -JB

:)Hi all!

Just like Musclemom, I'm out from hiding. I've been lurking around since I got infected with an AR fever that starts before the Prince50 and bullet button was born and way back when the only Cal legal complete rifle that I know was from Atlantic arms and DSarms. My 1st AR transformed to several configurations like an experiment. I'm on my 3rd AR build now with my 1st & 2nd gone, sold. I legally own other rifles and handguns in my safe that were traded-in for others that I didn't want anymore. They were like cars that you can only keep what you can afford and accomodate in your garage and driveway. Their value dont depreciate that much specially nowadays with what's going on right now. I'm not letting go of whatever I have right now and although they are not that many,"they are my few, my pride, and their mine", like my second ammendment. I saw Calguns booth last weekend and bought Tshirt and stickers. I making a vow to support and encourage others to protect our constitutional rights by participating in the forums. I am an NRA supporter and there's nothing better than having CalGuns around. It bothers me a lot everytime I load my AR the California way - thinking about the things we have to go through in California as gun owners. Was I funding support for other States? No offense to my fellow NRA members but I'm confused. This seems to be so complicated. We are a part of a United States but I'm not enjoying the same interpretation of Freedom others may have. It's not always easy to be a gun owner in California and I'm not leaving my beloved CALifornia just because of that. I wonder If we have CALGUNS around since long time ago, then maybe a California Rifle Association might have been born and things would have been different.
More power to all staff , moderators and everyone instrumental to the existence of this FORUM. Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to posting some of my babies in the gallery. I'll be around.

Time to introduce myself. I am a 51 year old male from far northern California. I have been a hard core hunter since I got my first BB gun at age 8. I killed my first buck at 13, and I have never not filled a tag that I have bought since. I also got my first bow when I was 8 and by the time I was 18 or 19 it was all I hunted with. Guns were just not enough of a challenge. I have 10 species well placed in Pope & Young including the 2nd biggest buck ever killed with a modern bow (give the natives some credit) in my home county. At one point I was making my own bows and chipping my own arrowheads. I also bow fished and won my share of tournaments.

A few years ago Fish and Game made it too hard to hunt with a bow when and where I wanted to and I just got a little burnt out, so I started hunting with guns again.

Last year Dad died and I inherited the old model 70's we used to hunt with. The 30.06 my grandfather bought new in the 40's. My father, three of my brothers and myself all killed our first bucks with that gun. The .270 was the one my dad always carried and it would shoot inside a dime at 100 yards.

I took the .270 out, it had not been shot in almost 30 years. There were 5 shells in the magazine I shot 3 of them in a nice 1" group, and decided this would be my deer rifle for the 2008 season. I bought several boxes of factory ammo, and could not get any of them to shoot less than 2" and some were much worse. Well we use to load or own, so I went all out and set up to start reloading again. Since then I have worked up great loads for all my rifles (about 30 in all) and I'm having a great time getting back into guns. I'm even thinking of getting a lathe and start building my own. By the way I filled both my deer tags with that old .270.

Between working up loads, building my first AR, and long range shooting (out to 1000 yards) I no longer think guns aren't enough of a challenge. I'm having a great time returning to my roots.

I am here to stay.

Hey, new calguns member here, found the site while looking for information on CA gun laws. Just applied for my C&R and currently only own one gun, a 1933 M91/30 Tula Mosin Nagant. Fun old gun, looking to up my collection though soon in light of Obama's push towards more gun control (saw this coming a mile away). Anyway looks like a great source of info and I am glad I stumbled across this place.

Just joined the forum and stopped by to say Hi and that I'm very interested in acquiring a legal AR15 for survival purposes; that is, when TSHTF I anticipate the possibility of having to shoot varmints for food and (god forbid) people (who are shooting at me). All I own now is a 22 pistol and a 22 rifle, which might be OK for squirrels and rabbits but not for people -- or deer, which I think is illegal to shoot with a 22? Years ago, I owned a 22 mag rifle, which had plenty of "punch" when it arrived at the target, so I'm assuming that an AR15 in the 223 configuration would be similar? Anyway, hello to everybody, and please feel invited to show me the ropes and where I can buy or build a legal one... thanks!

PS I was born here, moved to Arizona for a while then back. Kind of wish I was still in AZ, but it's not a decision I can reverse now...

I am not an expert, but .22mag is nowhere near the energy and velocity of .223 - two radically different calibers in my opinion. You will enjoy it though, it is an easy shooting caliber with the AR platform.

Any one of us would be happy to help you get started, what's your general location so that other members can start helping?

Turbinator, I'm in Kern County. We've got a firing range nearby, open on Saturdays, but I've heard that some ranges won't allow ARs, even if you tell them you have a "legal" one. Once I get mine, we'll see. The nearest gun store is in Bakersfield. What am I looking at? Over $500 probably, right? Unless I build it myself?

I've been lurking for a while and finally got around to registering.

This site is wealth of information and I plan on visting here often as I have recently contracted a severe case of blackrifle-itis
and need to keep working on a cure.

I just won a CA-legal lower on GunBroker and am looking forward to assembling and configuring my own personal AR

Hello everyone,

Just found this site. My wife and I just recently purchased our first guns: A Kahr manufactured Auto-Ordnance 1911 for myself (from what I have seen online the quality is much improved from before, with the exception of the front site getting loose on some), and my wife found a nice XD-45 tactical. I have always been a firearms enthusiast and finally decided to start my collection.

We pickup our new guns on Tuesday, and if I can find some ammo by then we will probably be found Wednesday night at the OC Indoor Shooting range in Brea. We live in Chino Hills, so Brea is pretty close, and the couple of times we rented at the Brea range we were really impressed with friendliness of the people who work there.

I already am thinking about my next purchases. I really want a Mosin-Nagant, and with them being fairly cheap..... Interestingly enough right now it seems easier to find the 7.62x54r ammo than .45 ACP... Outside of that I want to aquire a Makarov and a Sig 226 in 357 SIG, and then a good number of impulse buys.

Hello all,

I may have made a few posts before posting here, whoops. :p

Anyway, my name is Kevin McCluskey. My username 'Plisk' comes from Snake Plissken minus the 2nd 's', if anyone is familiar with him.

I recently turned 18, and I'm a Socal boy (whoop-e....) and am in the market for building my M4. I've got some ideas and I'm sure I'll have a thread up about it soon. But first things first, M4s cost money, living costs money... I'm sure I don't need to explain that to you everyone :D You've all been living it longer than I've been living. So in lou of that, you should find a thread of mine in the job section here.

Anyway, I've been lurking around this site for a while; and I'm very impressed. This is one of those somewhat hidden gems that for some reason no one ever told you about. I love the site, and I'm sure it will be a daily stop for me for a long time to come. It's also a late-night drone for me as well; it's past 4am as I write this! I really need to get some sleep.

Hope to meet more of you on the site in the morning. G'night!

Hello,

I'm new here aswell. I'm 25 from Southern California (Fontana, CA). I just purchased my first firearm last sunday at the Glendale Gun show. Picked up a Glock 23 from Ammo Bros. I should have it by the 19th of this month. I bought it primarily for home defense. Before this i use to shoot with my dad with his Ruger 10/22 and his 9mm Smith and Wesson. Aside from firearms I've been airsofting for about 5-6 years. I love the photography, the outdoors, my 2 pitbulls, motorcycles, and cars. I hope to gain more knowledge and more firearms through this site.

Here goes my first post to Calguns.
My name is Allan. My wife and I own Armed and Safe fire arms training.
I met the Calguns people at the Cow Palace gun show Feb 28th 09. God bless em. My wife and I had a small booth just a few table down from them. We are Utah instructors from Reno NV. Our goal is to grow the gun base in CA. We are working with several CA CCW instgructors to teach the Utah CCW class in their areas. These are instructors who have not yet got their Utah instructor licens yet, or just simply don't want to. our next class will be with R&D in Napa. April 5th. We are looking to set up classes with CA instructors to teach the Utah class for their students.
Like I said, we want to expand the gun base in CA. To this end I salute the work of Calguns. I will be at the Reno Tea Party on April 15th. Sponsored by the Nevada Republican Assembly. Find a Tea party in your area by googleing Tea Party. And make a stand for freedom.

Thanks to all for the website content.

I had a good time meeting a few Calgunners at the Cow Palace show a couple weeks ago. Bought a CG hat to help with support even before registering. Now here to say hello and thank Vic, I think, and Wildhawker Brandon for the warm welcome.

Enjoy history of the 20th century. Semi-auto, pump shotguns and milsurp bolt action.

Hope I'll be able to add info as well as share experiences, but first
I'm reading up on posts, it's well worth it.

Good evening folks.
Been having guns here in PRK for a few years already.
Finally got around to signing on here.
I like old German Lugers and Broomhandles as well as more modern Walthers.
My primary defense piece is a Springfield M1911-A1 .45.
A couple of P99s, a P5, and PPK/S round out our family defensive arsenal.
