Me and my gun in the California sun

05-28-2012, 8:16 PM
Been lurking for a while now, decided to come out of the corner. I'm relatively new to the fire arm scene. Had a shot gun and hunting rifle for a few years, shot them both a couple times and they mainly stayed in the closet. I recently traded the rifle for a glock 17, more practical (more frequent range visits/cheaper ammo/home defense). Then about a month ago bought my first AR, needless to say I'm hooked! Learned a lot from cal guns forums the short time I've been here, would like to be a contributing member for a great foundation!

Greetings! I have been interested in all things Russian and have been looking into buying a number of firearms that are from Russia. my brother pointed me to this site and I've been lurking since. I have been disappointed with caly's gun laws so I found this site helpful. I do hope to obtain a Mosin-Nagant (https://www.impactguns.com/mosin-nagant-m9130-round-receiver-762x54r-excellent-condition-with-bayonet-cleaning-kit-sling-and-to.aspx) first and them work my way up the Russian mountain from there

05-29-2012, 6:50 PM
Another former lurker joins! Ex-pat Englishman living in Davis. New to shooting, just bought my first firearm (decided to be traditional and got a 10/22).

I will doubtless have many stupid newbie questions.

New Guy Here, I guess I posted in the wrong place for my first post originaly!

Hello good people, I am a younger member who has recently gotten into the wave of firearm enthusiasm. Being a life long resident of CA you could say my new-found interest was a bit retarded since birth; but now I'm on the loose. ;) I hope to soak in as much information as you all have to offer.

06-05-2012, 8:19 PM
Hello everyone. I am a new California handgun owner and went shooting with a good freind that happesn to be LEO. Taught me a lot and let me shoot his service weapons including his MP-4. I'm hooked.

06-06-2012, 10:46 AM
Hi Calguns! My buddy introduced me to skeet shooting and ever since my first clay i'm hooked! I look forward to learning as much as I can from everyone here.

06-06-2012, 8:11 PM
Hi, I'm new and I have a question. Sorry if I asked this in the wrong area...but here it goes. Ok, so I would like to get a hand gun that is not California legal but plan on obtaining it by PPT (Private Party Transfer) from another state. If I get this gun and legally bring it in to Ca, would I be allowed to use it as a CCW as long as it has 10 round mags? I'm worried that it wont be alowed as a CCW if it's not on the CADOJ..

06-06-2012, 9:33 PM
Crossing state lines, it has to be on the "roster" or exempt. Doing a PPT doesn't get you around that rule unless you are doing a transfer from another CA resident (and almost always in person, though this part may not be set in stone, check with your FFL). I may be wrong, but the better place to ask this question is in legal, but search around, I am sure it has been covered multiple times.

Hey CalGun Members…New member here. I have my first CCW interview scheduled in October and have a couple of questions regarding the guns I will add to my list of carried weapons. 1) I wish to transfer ownership of one of my wife’s guns to my ownership. Is there a special process for this? 2) I purchased a gun in the 1980’s and would like to make sure this gun is registered in my name before I add it to my CCW paperwork. Would anyone recommend a FFL in the Elk Grove area? This GREAT site is packed with so much info that it would take a lifetime to get thru it all!!!! Wow.

06-12-2012, 4:46 PM
Hello, Im new to CalGuns and i have no clue on how to start a thread. Ive read that you simply click the 'New Thread' button but I cannot find it. I was pointed to this site by my local gun shop to sell my AR-15. Please help.

Hello everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself as well as thank all of you for the massive amount of info you all have contributed to this wonderful forum.
I'm a returning to guns noob. Grew up with wonderful instructors, my Father and my Uncle, but stpped away for the last 20 years. Now getting back in with a restore of my first rifle (Remington Mohawk10c).
Due to the economy and my lack of a nice sum of money at any one time, I am planning on building my first CA legal AR-15 (buying it in sections over a period of time) so if anyone can offer any pointers or point me to the right section I would be be very grateful.

As you can tell, my small introduction is more than just a "Hi Guys". I'm a talker, so I look forward to talking/chatting with you all. :)

Have a great day,

Greetings, I've been lurking off and on for quite awhile and decided it was time to start posting.

06-19-2012, 9:42 AM
Howdy, all. I am a long time reader, but a first time poster here. The site is very informative for someone just getting into firearms, lots of knowledge and experience.

My main interest is in older guns (especially surplus); there is so much beauty in a nice wood stock and a blued finish. See you on the forums!

06-22-2012, 6:48 PM
Hello Calgunners. I was an avid firearms enthusiast (gun nut) in my youth, but had to give it up for a while due to time/money constraints. My old passion recently reawakened after 17 years of slumber ... believe me, I really did feel like Rip Van Winkle when I found out that my favorite powder had been discontinued and S&W hardly makes revolvers anymore. I hope to become an active participant in Calguns -- I'm truly amazed by everything that has been accomplished, both online and offline.

06-27-2012, 9:14 PM
Hello Gunners,

I'm what you would consider a "FNGO" Frickin new gun-owners. I have so far:

Maverick 88 HD 7+1
Ruger 10/22

Next Rifle: Saiga 7.62.x39mm

Happy to be on here to learn how NOT to be afraid of firearms.

06-29-2012, 5:54 AM
Hey everyone. Forgot to post here first. sorry, and sorry my english is bad, I hope you learn a lot from Calgunners, I've been lurking this forum for a good time
I currently live in México city, i love guns

Just joined the site but have been on the site many times for all the great information here. Alot of knowledge on these pages, thank you much. I am currently a NRA pistol, shotgun and patrol rifle Instructor as well as a Glock, Sig pistol and AR armorer. I have been shooting firearms for over 35 years and have a decent collection of military type weapons.

Hey everyone,

My friends are all long time readers of this place and recently introduced it to me. Figured I'd make an account and introduce myself.

Prior Service US Army turned Professional Geek (web development).

My beloved is the M1 Garand in beautiful condition handed down from my step-dad. She's amazing and though she's an armory edition she's also all original.

Sold the Glock 17 to my co-worker so that leaves me with my M1 Garand and a fun little bolt action Marlin 22NM (.22 WMR) rifle.

I'm looking to get a new rifle, one that's considerably cheaper to shoot than the M1; not sure if I want to go the Saiga IZ 132 or an AR.

They both look like fun and to be honest one of my favorite rifles to shoot was my old M16... The AR15 is just so small; I don't like the M4 sizing ;(

Anyways there's my intro! See you guys on the range.

Hello everyone. I actually stumbled across this place almost by accident, after receiving a notice about the dreaded SB 249. I find it rather disheartening to see our rights being voted away almost on a daily basis, thus forcing us to form organizations in order to standup for our rights as freeborn citizens. I wonder what happens next? Do we need to join a speech club to protect our freedoms of speech? Or an art club to protect our right to expression? This trend is getting rather tiresome and ridiculous.

hello! looked like a great sight

07-06-2012, 8:47 PM
New to the Site, I've lurked on it off and on for a while.
I have over 20 years in the USMC, so I know my way around a variety of weapons. I currently own a Ruger P94, AR-15 (5.56), Saiga AK-74 (5.45), Win 1894 (.32 Spl), and soon to be owner of a Win 70 (.300) unless I change my mind and change my layaway to a .308 or 7mm-08.
I joined to get a better knowledge of the CA gun laws. I live on the border by Yuma during the week, and go home to Escondido on weekends.

07-08-2012, 1:40 PM
Hey Everyone,

Technically this is post 2 after a short "pm sent" post for a Mossy 590 for sale. I have a Mosin 91/30 and a passed down WW2(?) pilot pistol from Europe. Been lurking on here forever but just decided to create an account to get some more info on the pistol and pick up some more toys. I live in San Pedro and mall crawler refers to my Jeep Grand. lol

07-08-2012, 3:32 PM
Hey guys,

I'm an avid shooter and lover of all things tactical. I've been lurking on here for years, but I decided to finally get around to creating an account.

Some info about me:

I'm a 19 year old male from Orange County. I'm currently going to college in NorCal, though. I own several firearms, my favorites of which are my Noveske N4 (Bullet Button build) and Glock 19 (interfamilial transfer). I look forward to learning from and contributing to the CalGuns community.

07-08-2012, 9:48 PM
Hello everyone.
New to the site, discovered you when looking into CA gun laws.
I'm a Brit and have been living in CA for about 9 months. I'm currently getting my Hunter Safety course completed so that I can get my Hunters License as I'm not even allowed to touch a weapon without one, being on a H1-B visa is quite restrictive :-(

Once I have my Hunters License I'll be off to the range with some of my "local" friends and their hardware and I will then be looking to buy myself a rifle, I can see that I'll get some good direction from everyone here. ^_^

07-08-2012, 10:46 PM
welcome to the forum.

07-09-2012, 9:37 AM
I'm a born again gun owner. I haven't owned a gun since High School. I live on the Central Coast. My wonderful wife, in collaboration with badhabit90, got me a AR-15 (5.56) rifle for Father's day. So, now I have a project. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about my rifle and guns in general. There is a lot to learn. The one thing I have learned so far is that the State of California is a joke when it comes to gun laws. I am looking forward to lurking on the forums and trying to absorb as much info as possible.

07-10-2012, 12:49 PM
Hi Folks, Rich from norcal here. How in the world did I not know about calguns before? How did we survive before the internet???

hoping to enrich my gun ownership experience through sharing the community experiences of others who also have to deal with the same complex and limiting laws of our part of our country...

07-10-2012, 4:44 PM
welcome Rich
Ya great site !!

Hi there ladies and gents. My name is Ryan and I'm an enthusiast and hopefully a Gunsmith in a couple years. I have a new found love for AR's after I've been around a couple BCM builds. Any who, I am sure there is a bunch of knowledge and answers to my questions. And also the laughs that come along with it... :D

07-15-2012, 8:33 PM
Hi everyone I'm new to the site.:D
I been a gun owner for 12 years and in the past 2 had renewed my interest in fine firearms. Im also here to learn more about the california gun laws and to find locations for sport shooting as a spectator/competitor.

Thanks everyone, M

07-16-2012, 11:47 AM
Just joined up because i found out about senator Leland Yee's asinine proposition to ban "evil guns" in California even though they are compliant with all rules and regulations set fourth by his very same 3 ring circus. I like the live updating list of crapolla SB's that California legislators are pushing to sneak past us red blooded proud gun loving and freedom loving American citizens. Im just a former marine, average joe that is forced to build his own AR's because its soooooooo difficult and expensive to do it any other way in our great state. but ill tell you what, if Arizona had an ocean, i would be packing up a moving truck so fricken fast!!!....
semper fi guys and gals.

07-16-2012, 1:38 PM
Hi all,

I've been a long time reader, first time poster. I just moved back to CA after completing my degree in Finance from BYU, so I figured it was about time I join. There's a lot of knowledge on here, and I hope to contribute myself!

07-16-2012, 8:06 PM
Introducing myself to this fine forum and membership.

I've been a shooter, right here in California, for most of my 60 plus years.

I have a lot to learn about the legal morass for gun owners here in the once-golden state, and I think that this is a great place to start.

07-17-2012, 10:44 AM
Marine, Moving to San Diego Area sometime soon, going to be mostly lurker and will try to not post any information unless needed..

07-17-2012, 1:45 PM
Eric here. Former lurker and now the newest member. I did some groveling and picked up my Franklin Armory XO-26 or SE-SSP in 5.56mm today.

I'm former Air Force EOD and currently a California LEO. I'm here to learn, and quite possibly explain some things. A lot of these damned California gun laws can be confusing and I hate being ignorant on something so important.

07-17-2012, 2:41 PM
Hey everyone, my name's George, active duty Sergeant in the Marines living in Sacramento for the time being. Picking up my first handgun this Saturday, a brand new Glock 19, and I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can from all the experience on this board. I was recommended to this place by a co-worker and have already learned quite a bit just by lurking around for a few days. Thanks for having me.

07-19-2012, 12:16 PM
Been a member for a couple months now but can't remember introducing myself here.

I grow walnuts for a living on our ranch in NorCal. I joined on the recommendation of a friend/calgunner. Great site so far with lots of good info.
I'm hoping to buy my couple of handguns here(looking for a .22 & a10mm). My favorite gun in safe is either my savage 24(.222/20gauge) or my trusty Marlin 60.

New to CalGuns myself. Just learning to post and upload images from my control panel. Lots of information here on this forum. Glad to be here.
Thanks CGN.

07-21-2012, 12:35 PM
Hello all,

First off, top notch site for Californians to get information about all the gun laws in our state good or bad. I joined this site after my first firearm purchase ( bennelli M4). I'm looking forward to learning more from the more experienced members here, as I plan on building an AR for each of my boys to begin learning more about the joys of marksmanship and discipline. As was done for me by my mom ( with a 22LR pistol). When I was 10. Look forward to chatting with you guys.

07-22-2012, 12:06 PM
Just found this site and LOVE it. Some members are hilarious!
I've come to California from Nevada via Arizona. Awesome back country here but quite a lot of people and weird laws.
Moved from the Sac area to east Shasta county to get away from the hordes and found outdoorsman/woman nirvana. I spend part of each day exploring the myriad of water bodies north/west of lassen Natl park.
Anyone with suggestions on cool places please let me know. If you have a C area deer tag you are lucky, LOTS of antlers here.

Hi all,

I just joined the forum after ~2.5 years of trolling around it. I wish I could say "FIRST POST" but my first post was to enter my name into the 10-year anniversary giveaway :D BTW, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY CALGUNS.NET!! And here's to the next 10 years!

Kestryll and the rest of the Calguns.net team are doing an amazing job keeping this forum open and helping newbies like me learn all there is to know about firearms and legally exercising my 2nd Amendment rights here in California.

I'm looking forward to learning more from everyone here as well as sharing my experiences, thoughts, and opinions! Speaking of which, I'm off to post pictures of my small but growing collection in the different sub-forums and threads.

07-24-2012, 8:44 PM
Former lurker, now a new member! Also a former Californian and living in the great northwest.

07-26-2012, 1:17 PM
Just signed up and I'm interested in selling some old shotguns. I'm sure there is a thread for that so ill post it there.

07-27-2012, 4:48 PM
What? No new members since 2005?

I found you searching for information indicating a ban on ammo sales in N Calif. (Haven't found anything yet - anyone?)

Here's my intro:

I'm a retired AF Colonel, living in N Calif, raising llamas and milk goats. Purchased my first weapon in 1969, and it's gone everywhere with me.

Oh yeah, I'm a female.

:D I am new to the gun world although I have am an avid believer in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. I ran in to your members in Del Mar California several months ago. Since then my partner and I are glad to of gained knowledge from the information you provided for our donation and the conitnued fight for our rights.

I am new to this forum. Thank you in advance for having me. I bought my first firearm (Marlin Model 60 22LR) back when you could pay and leave with your purchase the same day! I also have a 1917 16Ga Winchester Model 12 (was my grandfathers, then my dad's, now mine) and AR-15 (S&W).

07-31-2012, 3:16 PM
Hi everyone! Been lurking this site for a few years now. Thought it was time I came out of the shadows.

07-31-2012, 4:49 PM
Hi guys! Newbie here!

07-31-2012, 9:36 PM
Hey there everyone!

I've browsed this forum from time to tim, but was leary about posting any personal info given the current times. But I feel confident from reading these forum posts, that this is one BIG family.

Just like in a true family, some one may rub his brother the wrong way once in a while, but at the end of the day it's like we're all sitting down at the dinner table together eating a delicious turkey (or cleaning our guns, drinking our favorite beverages, etc) and sharing favorite stories.

Thanks for letting me be part of the family here at CalGuns! Hopefuli I DON'T rub any of you the wrong way.

Oh, I only have one firearm now, since my rifle was banned in the 90's. I had a nice Chinese SKS 7.62x39mm with a black wood stock (I stripped it and coated it with true-oil), chrome-lined barrel, thum-hole pistol grip, a few 30-round detacheable magazines...but they ground off the bayonet lug. I re-ground it into a nice half-pipe front site (like a skate ramp). I never got to fire it the whole 2 years I owned it. :( Took it back to the dealer I bought it from. Better than the $100 the Sheriff's Dept would have given me. I hear that rifle is legal again, maybe with a mod or two?

Well, at least I still have my old Ruger KP89 9mm pistol.

08-01-2012, 12:59 PM
Just kinda tripped over this site doing some web surfing. Taking hunter safety required course to get my hunting license this week and hoping to get a rifle before deer season. Moved back to N. Cali about 6 months ago and don't know too many people up here yet so if anyone sane and sober near Orland wants a new fishing buddy, I'm looking for people to get a line wet with, or to hunt with once I get my license this month. Just drop me a PM.

08-01-2012, 8:02 PM
Friends at work have been telling me about this site. Glad to be here.

08-01-2012, 11:57 PM
Hi I am Ftak & I have been reading the forums & finally decided to join. I look at some of the laws in California regarding firearms & thought they were exaggerations but there not. I am in the weapons component industry & know many retailers who will not ship to California & I was just trying to figure out why. As long as you play by the rules I cant see any harm. But one thing many venders bring up is what happened to Cav Arms which I have heard so many different stories it's crazy. Anyway I am going to hang around with y'all in the forums. Texas gun laws are great for there are none really that is if you can legally own a gun. Armed society is a honest society & I look forward to discussions on here. Thanks for having me. Good day

Hello from Texas again I am Ftak & my specailty is the AR15. My brand is Noveske & my handguns are Sig. I have built many AR's but only personal weapons & never for resale but I did trade two for a set of Sea Doos & they were quite desired. I use mostly Noveske parts when building but I also use LMT & Vltor. I started selling components now for I have the AR plague. I have a lot of varietys of gear well all of it except lowers. I really enjoy it and have firearms in my DNA. So let's chat soon & share some ideas for I have many. Thanks for having me

Hello. Long time lurker, 1st time poster... so thanks for all the "FREE" info! I grew up in eastern Pennsylvania where we have things like the Liberty Bell to remind us why the 2nd Amendment is so important if we wish to retain the 1st! While fairly moderate, I have never understood CA's Draconian firearms laws.
I have enjoyed reading all the knowledge based info posted here, and would likely have joined long ago if I was half as comfortable with how forums work as I am with how Firearms work. Thanks again, and hope I will be able to contribute.

Hi all, -- Stopping by to say hello. This is a great site! Looking forward to further browsing. First question I have is, is there a way to search the marketplace for specific items? -- Valley Dave

Hi folks! Looks like some friends convinced me to start up yet another addictive hobby. My RIA 1911 tactical is out of jail tomorrow, I can't wait!

Well hello there. Long time lurker finally going active. I'm from San Diego but I moved to LA (Diamond Bar) last year Feb and have been bouncing around LA ever since. Now I currently reside in South El Monte. Looking forward to shooting more since it has been a while and meeting the local Calgunners.

I currently own a Sigma 9ve and planning on getting the mossberg tactical persuader very soon as well as building an AR15 from the ground up.

08-08-2012, 4:11 PM
Ernie, if your still shopping for an AR in CA, after long research i went with an entry level AR S&W M&P Sport. Paid a little over 700.00 and excepts all accessories and shoots the 5.56 or 223

I'm a new member, but have been coming here for years. Hope to continue to learn from you guys and share my two cents when i can. Im no expert, just a glorified desk jockey who has shot too many guns.

08-18-2012, 6:29 AM
First post as a new member. First I would like to thank all of you for supporting our gun rights. Bought my first gun ( Ruger Super Blackhawk 357 magnum) at Montgomery Wards back in 1972. Yes that's when every store sold guns. Have purchased some rifles and shotguns since then. Just purchased a Ruger LCR 38 and shot it for the first time at a local range. Need some more practice but it's a great hand gun. What happend to the price of ammo while I was out of the loop?
My son moved to Oklahoma and has gone gun crazy since you can get just about anything there. Have a great day.

Hello there from Rowland Heights, CA. Looking to read up on some AR-15 info.

hi all, new member as 5 minutes ago. Heard about this website on a youtube video. Bought my first AR-15 2 months ago. I currently live in Utah but I just found out I'm being transferred to CA. I'm debating selling my AR since it is illegal in it's current configuration in CA. I will be perusing the site, but any advice is more than welcome.

Welcome Metalman!

New to calguns.net, but not the community. Helped in the cleanup in Perris BLM, was a great success, and can't wait to do it again. Anything to keep these ranges open, so that my family can continue to shoot together for many years.

A couple that shoots together, stays together.

I usually lurk first, ask questions later. Thought I'd break with tradition and sign up the same day I found a helpful group. I've shot a little for a little while and like to tinker. Guess I'm a gunsmith wannabe:22:. Thanks for having such a great forum, and thanks for having me.

Scott from Santa Clara here - finally getting back to some shooting and buying after FAR too long.

Most importantly, though, I really want to thank the folks that run this forum and everyone who posts to it. I love lots of things about CA, but all of the different laws sometimes leave me baffled. I think that's half the intent of those that made them, but I've always been able to come here and find the answers I need quickly and easily. You guys rock!

Thanks for having me aboard!

Hello, I'm new here. I live in the IE area. I have several AR's, SCAR 17(For sale), and some handguns. I'm just here to learn.

New guy here in the Bay Area, looking forward to learning some stuff here. I have 5 long guns, 1943 Mosin, WWI M95 Steyr Stutzen, Marlin 795 w/Simmons 4x32, Mossberg 500 Persuader 7+1, and an M&p 15 sport. Hopefully will be getting a Vortex StrikeFire for it pretty soon.

09-08-2012, 7:04 PM
Hello, my name is Katie and I'm fairly new to both shooting and the Bay area (about a year, year and a half respectively). My boyfriend is a former US Marine who is from the Bay area and also a calguns memeber. He purchased his first handgun last year and taught me to shoot- now I love it! Our house is slowly filling up with handguns, shotguns, and rifles, but I wouldn't have it any other way now. :)

09-10-2012, 4:26 PM
Hi fellow weaponologist. I'm a new-bee to Calguns as well as forum threads so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I am a 70 yr old former gunner and hunter. Bad knees and bad back has forced me to "thin the herd" so to speak. I have given most of my guns, rifles and pistols, to my grandson, and grand daughter, but have a duplicate to sell. I am hoping for some fast action. I have a Winchester Mod. 62A, Sr#141119 (1935) 22 cal., S, L, LR, pump action, tube mag. This gun shows normal wear for its 75 yrs, but the action is still tight and no cracks in stock or slide grip. Asking $600, but will negotiate for a quick sale. Serious inquiries can send email to goldbug007@verizon.net.

09-11-2012, 9:38 PM
I just realized I've been lurking around Calguns for the last 3 years, and I don't believe I've ever posted. I just want to thank everyone who has taken the time to contribute information to this site. I probably won't post much since I'm mainly here to soak up knowledge.

New guy here, been looking at Calguns for about a year now. I'm a retired LEO (32 + years) and after being away from guns and shooting for about 10 years I wanted to get back into it. I like the way the Calguns Forum works and respect all the really good advice and great information I've seen here.

I have been on this site for a short time & I must admit this is a very impressive site. Everyone is kind & courteous & all the members really know there stuff with facts & not opinions. I am glad I found this site & I recommend to many people I meet through my business. This site is a well oiled machine & I am happy to be part of it. I am going to link it to my site or try as long as its within the rules & of course if I can figure out how. Perhaps some of the senior members can advise me on this. Keep up the great work and I will spread the word. We may start seeing more Texans soon. Good evening

I have gone through the "New to Calguns" posts and I have to say I am glad to be a member. This is a very robust website/forum. I have a ton of questions regarding posting private firearms for sale? Can anyone tell me if there are mentors on this site that can help you through the process?

I am in Orange County, CA.

Thanks ahead of time!

Hi y'all,
I'm new to calguns but not to guns. Very much a part-time user but a full-time owner - maybe because I'm better at owning them than using them. I'm looking to expand the collection and spend more time at the range (and out in the vast open desert) so I'm looking to learn more about the guns I own and the ones I wish to.

This looks like a good place for that.

See you around.

09-24-2012, 7:05 PM
My name's Austin and I'm fairly new to guns. We recently started going to Burrow Canyon range and my whole family's hooked! I get to pick up my first gun (XD 40) in a few days and couldn't be more stoked:D. I hope to learn a lot on this forum and look forward to contributing what I can.

09-27-2012, 1:35 PM
Newb to everything. Guns and this forum. Well, I'm not a forum newb in general.

Checking in and doing lots of research. Gonna look into my first handgun. I like service weapons, but have been referred to the Beretta px4 storm 40.

Lets see what happens.

new guy checking in been shooting for a long time hoping to purchase my first handgun this weekend at the crossroads gun show in Ontario

10-03-2012, 2:31 PM
Hi, I just registered. I'm interested in emergency preparedness and thankfully stumbled across this website. I'm born (1964) and raised in SoCal and don't plan to leave. I'm not a seasoned gun owner; never hunted or been in the military.

I bought a nice Ruger 10-22 about 20 years ago. Nice wood stock on SS. I've taken it out to the desert about 20 times (my dad is a Vietnam vet living in LHC, AZ).

I also 'inherited' a Mossberg 88 12 gauge a few years back from a roommate, which I have never shot, and about 15+ years ago inherited a 410 shotty from my uncle (I IDed it many years back but forgot what it is), which I have taken out about 12 times. My dad and I have have fun shooting up clay pigeons with this gun; shells are much cheaper.

So I intend to buy my first handgun very soon, and this CA only gun site looks great! I'm gonna search around for a few days to find ansers, and if I can't, I'll start a thread.

Thanks for taking me in.

10-05-2012, 11:51 AM
I am glad to find a California Firearm forum. I am hoping to learn a lot from this forum and educate myself further about guns.

10-05-2012, 11:54 AM
Practicing, training, and education on guns is also great and recommended.

10-05-2012, 11:56 AM
I shoot. I like guns. I like to shoot. That`s all. :38:

Practice, training, and education is also great to do. It makes us a better gun owner and shooter.

Long timer shooter, new to Calguns. I like shooting highpower rifle, rimfire rifle, and pistol. I primarily shoot at the SLOSA range just off Highway 1 in San Luis. I was there today testing our some loads for my .243.

I reload .308, .243, 40 S&W, 45 ACP and 9mm (for my daughter).

Hello, everyone! I'm Matthew; I currently live in Oceanside and I've lived in California for fifteen years. I'm originally British, but I've been here for a while.

I was introduced to guns as a member of the Royal Air Force cadets as a teenager, and shot many thousands of rounds there, mostly 7.62mm NATO through the L1A1 SLR (British licensed version of the FN FAL but built to Imperial measurements).

Haven't shot much since, but interested in getting back into the shooting hobby — especially since finding I can buy a California-legal FAL! So looking at my options.

10-11-2012, 2:00 PM
Hello.. new User Here..... Im on a number of other firearm related forums and decided to go ahead and sit in on these conversations here at Calguns.net as well.. Alot of my searches seem to frequently lead to this forum, so Like I said, here I am. Glad to be here and will chime in on topics from time to time. See you in the Mix!!

Hi, CG's

Im a newcomer on CG :oji:. My mother recently inherited these firearms (from within California) , and has offered some to me if I want:

steyr match .308

Can any be made California Legal? If so, are some "more legal" than others? & can anyone recommend some good links with instructions on how to do it right?

BIG THANKS for any info you can share!!

10-12-2012, 5:26 AM
Hey CG:

I got refered here by a friend and thought I'd write a quite introduction.

I've grew up around fire arms so they've always been something I was aware of and trained properly how to operate. Back in the 70's & 80's my family owned a gunshop in San Diego; this was before I was born I'm a youngin'. For one reason or another they closed up and my father sold most of his collection. I've since started building my collection now I have some extra income. I've recently inherited my grandfather's Springfield 1911 service pistol which is my first handgun of the collection. 5 years ago I got started with an $80 Mosin which has mostly sat in my closet until recently. There were no indoor ranges I could use it at close by.

Yesterday I took the plunge on buying a 7.62 Saiga after seeing the short special Turner's was running on calguns. Too cheap to pass up and I don't have to deal with those silly bullet buttons. My enthusiam has re-inspired my father to get back into it and he was looking at a M&P15 sport or an entry level AR.

Hello to all Calguns Members.

Just recently joined the forums after my cousin introduced me into the world of guns and collecting after shooting his AR-15 at the range a few weeks ago. I just turned 26 last month, born and raised in South Sacramento. Currently in the middle of piecing my own AR-15 together so the forums have been a great help. :D

I am really proud to be on such an active site with lotsa kind folks.

I am Masteryor and have been since the first days of HALO...raised around guns and hunting on the Texas coast....now a disabled semi retired minister, computer consultant and gun restorer to name a few. I hope to start up an online store where guns, computers and God are well mixed.

A FAIR WARNING... I am a die hard lover of the .22 mag (WMR, OR WHATEVER) and actually working on a few projects with gun manufacturers and ammo companies to show how effective and useful the new .22 magnum truly is...

My CHL is clear that self defense means center fire ... Yet I and several others contend that may be a bit archaic...(pocket 5 shot .22 mag revolver).

Glad to be in and lets get to the good stuff...

Hi all. I'm from South Africa and a Afrikaans speaking farmer/civil contractor. I found this site on the internet while searching for a new scope. Hope you understand everything i type.

Hi everybody. I just joined calguns.net today. I have known how to shoot since I was 10, and I've gone shooting from time to time throughout my life, mostly with my shotgun. I live in Sacramento county, where the sheriff started issuing concealed carry permits in 2010. I figured I'd better get one while he's still doing it. Today, I friend of mine took me to the range to try out a few of his pistols, since he already has a CCW permit and carries frequently. I learned that I shoot a Glock 9mm Model 19 Gen 2 the best of all of his guns, so I'll probably want to get a used one of those. I also liked his S&W Airweight .38 spec. So, my next trick is to find a Glock 19 on calguns.net. Cheers, everyone!

Figured I'd say hi from socal. Been trapped in the area for five years now and figured I'd join Calguns to shoot the bull with other like minded individuals from the area and also keep up with any current events. I'll see y'all at the range.

First off thank you all for supporting this Hobby, and sport.
Being on........ a way... on the other side of young:cool2: this a perfect way to be out of the house and city for fresh air and the smell and sounds of igniting gun powder.:D
I do want to pose a question, but not sure what category and how to start a new thread.

All my life I loved guns the outdoors and meat for some reason it took me 45 years to put those three together.

Firm believer on the balance that guns provide in all aspects of life.

Hey everyone, just joined CG and want to say hello. I live in San Diego am a civilian now but used to be in the Coast Guard for 8 years with allot of experience handling firearms. I currently own a Glock 22, remington 870 and just purchased an S&W M&P AR15 sport. Hope to meet some of you San Diego shooters soon.

My enthusiam has re-inspired my father to get back into it and he was looking at a M&P15 sport or an entry level AR.

welcome to the forum.

it's great that your dad has renewed his enthusiasm, with your assistance.

My name is Mark. I go up to the high desert and shoot guns. Rifles, shotguns, and handguns. I go up there as an annual trip for guys including my dad's co-workers, my brothers, dad, friends, and nephews. We blow up tannerite and shoot targets. Great time.

Hello folks my name is Greg, I am from California, born and raised however I moved/transfered to Arkansas (thanks IBM) back in 2006, then transfered to Louisiana in 2009 (again thanks IBM) Upon settling in from my move to Arkansas and the culture shock... I recieved junk mail flyers from sporting goods stores and about had a heart attack, I was looking at fishing tackle and came across the gun page and that was all she wrote. Before I knew it I purchased a dozen weapons/guns and started going to gun shows (better then porn!) I am getting old and have always wanted a M1A/M14, AR15/M16, etc. Honestly I haven't even fired most of my weapons. Now I have a opportunity to relocate back to California and after some research most of my weapons are not legal. This is why I have joined your forum. I have many questions. I don't want to spend my retirement at club fed.

Nice to meet you all, I recently became a gun owner so figured I might as well register here :)

11-10-2012, 9:50 PM
Just wanted to introduce myself. I was born and raised in CA, moved out to AZ and MO for a few years and now I'm back in CA. I've got a wife and 3 young boys that are all in love with shooting and the outdoors. Hope to meet some great people on here. Thank you all in advance

11-12-2012, 8:32 AM
Hi Wallen. Welcome back to CA. In my observation, you'll need to have gun-friendly support in this state, especially having been acclimated to AZ. MO I suspect is similar. I grew up in Texas where hunting and fishing was common, and parents weren't afraid to introduce a respect for guns to kids early. What is you and your family's interest in guns: collecting, buy-sell dealer, hunting, sport/competition -shooting, defense against violence, other?

11-12-2012, 8:36 AM
Hi Deimos. Welcome to gun ownership. Why did you buy a gun and what do you hope to accomplish? For me, it's primarily for home/ self-defense, though I like to still hunt if the opportunity arises.

11-12-2012, 12:48 PM

11-16-2012, 4:34 PM
I'm new here, and finally getting back to some target shooting after 30 years. My interest is .22LR prone long range. Thanks for hosting a nice group of interested people.

11-17-2012, 6:33 PM
Hello and introducing myself also. On the WTS site what does "bump" mean?

11-18-2012, 9:37 PM
New here. I've been lurking for a while. I've been researching firearm info and types for about a year now, when I first got interested in them. I've always had a slight interest in them, but never considered owning one.

This summer I went to LAX Firing Range for my bachelor party. I loved it. Now I'm hooked and just saving up to buy my own gun(s) so I don't have to keep renting them.

I'm a freelance illustrator and graphic design. I mostly illustrate comics and graphic novels... hence my username. Right now I'm working on a zombie themed graphic novel and in my spare time my own book that is a throwback to old car chase films like Bullitt.

I'm interested in AR-15s mostly, but would like to shoot a 1911 and well... anything I can get my hands on.

Hello everyone i'm new to the firearms world been shooting for about three yrs. I have a small collection just starting and funds are low : ) i have a 380 pistol (was my grandpas & my first gun), S&W 40cal, F.N.H. 12 gauge, & ak variant 7.62x39. Very excited to learn as much as i can from everyone. Just wanted to say HI everyone!:hide:

11-24-2012, 6:49 PM
Hello All, I've never shot a gun before and am interested in acquiring a firearm for home protection. I'm a Graphic Designer/Photographer/Video specialist and would like to learn more about guns in general. I have a few friends and family that are gun enthusiasts and have pointed me to this direction. From what I've learned so far, I'm looking into getting a S&W Revolver but I'm open to many suggestions.
thx all!

11-24-2012, 9:11 PM
Hi Everyone,

I've never owned a gun. My total firearms experience is the one time I held and fired a .22 revolver using about 30 rounds at a target 10 ft away, and that sums up my experience. Being an educated man, I find my utter ignorance of firearm use and safety a hole that needs filling.

I hope to learn a ton, everyone seems very friendly, and in the near future I plan to start my on hands firearms education with proper classes, practice, and of course-the purchase of the proper firearms.

I'm looking to eventually get a Bushmaster ACR as my rifle, a semi-auto shotgun, and a semi-auto handgun. I still have a lot of research and hands on to do before I decide, so that is what I will be doing with my spare time.

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Happy to be here!

11-26-2012, 2:29 PM
Hello everybody. I finally pulled the trigger (pun intended) and purchased my first gun. I was told by a couple of people that I should look here. So, here I am. I hope to learn a lot and continue the addiction that is shooting.
