Hello All, I have looked around here a bunch and now had to join due to the lawsuit just filed. I have always asked gun shop owners why I need to wait 10 days each time. I was always told it was a way for the state to make money. So thanks and I hope Calguns wins !!!

About me... Moved to Cali with the Navy a bunch of years ago. Raising a family in San Diego now. I used to shoot a bunch as a kid and now am getting back in to the sport. Looking to attend an Appleseed event in March. Thanks to the many people here answering questions.

Just wanted to say hi to all members & I'm new to Calguns. I don't currently own a weapon (gun), but am looking to purchase my 1st (of several possibly).
I served 8 years in the US Army, with my last 4 under the Special Ops umbrella, and am now back home in CA. :D
So I'm very familiar with several different weapon systems, but I'm slowly learning the CA weapons laws & of all the bans & restrictions.
I'm just looking to really enjoy the weapon I personally buy, without feeling like I had to settle because of our state laws. :(

thanks in advance for any comments, questions or suggestions.

Hi All,
Been hanging in the shadows - reading and learning. Great site, lots of great information and discussions. I live in northern Cali. - Sonoma County. I presently own 2 Handguns - a 1991A1 Colt and a S&W Model 500 Revolver. I am working towards rounding out my beginning collection with an AR type rifle. Not really looking to put one together from parts but am looking at buying it complete up front - in spite of the kooky California restrictions I am looking at 3 model choices - The Colt M4, the Sig 516 Patrol or 716 Patrol or the FNH Scar 16S or 17S.
So I am new to the Rifle scene but have already gained alot of insight from the members of this forum.
Might as well ask if anybody has a favorite dealer in the Sonoma county area who might stock these models - From what I have learned they are being made as California Compliant with the dumbed down features.
Any insights to these choices are more than welcome.
Thanks for all the posts and discussions.

Hi all

I hope you're enjoying your Holidays and getting ready for a wonderful New Year's Eve celebration. I just wanted to say HI and say that I'm looking forward to learning and participating in this forum. I just got my first firearm as a gift from my wife - H&K USP 9 and I'm looking into getting a rimfire rifle next (soon) for plinking.

Stay safe and enjoy the celebrations!

Hello all,

Found this site from a link on mods to make a 10/22 more user friendly. I've had mine since 1964, still works great. Looking forward to learning more about the 10/22 and other things here. Good shooting to all.

Hello all,
Just thought I would drop a line and introduce myself. I grew up shooting and hunting in south GA, but haven't been hunting in 12 years. I get my new Savage 7mm Rem Mag this saturday. I never thought 10 days could take so long or suck so bad. I have a 20ga pump and a 30-06 at my dads in GA, but needed something out here. Can't wait to get in some deer and hog hunting....

Greetings Calgunners! I am joining especially to learn about local shotgun learning opportunities. Especially skeet, but it seems I have fun every time I make one go bang and then smell the smoke curling out of the breech. Wish I'd never picked one up, but now I'm hooked, so I expect I'll spend most of my time on the Shotgunning side of Calguns. Been very pleased so far to meet a lot of very warm and welcoming people, thanks for that!

Hi Calguns!

New to the forum and new to shooting as well. Have shot some rifles and pistol but never owned. Just recently got my HSC and am looking to purchase a semi auto pistol in the near future. Looking at either .40 or .45 caliber for my first gun, however I intend on shooting everything in between to see what suits me best. Have been reading some rave reviews on the SA XD series and am looking forward to firing some rounds through one.

Looking forward to sifting through the forums for any valuable info on the many topics posted...

Hi All,
New to the forum and the SF Peninsula - Redwood City area. I was raised in Norcal and learned to shot my grandpa's .22 when I was 5 and a variety of guns on through my teens. Haven't shot in a loooong time, but now I'm married with kids and need to pass along my heritage. Down the road would like to get into reloading, at least for my shotgun.

Hoping to cover a basic pistol safety class with the wife in a few months, and start the kids in a few years.

Would like to connect with other enthusiasts in the RWC area - especially if you have a shooting spouse.

I work in the tech sector and have experience in web development, ecommerce, and leading programmers. Also grew up in the trades, so I can swing a hammer and sweat copper too!

Hello from the latest FNG. Have been directed here so many times in the past from Google while searching for information I figured it was about time I join. I live in the Temecula area and enjoy shooting as a hobby, one carried over from previous career.

My home Armory includes a Springfield - TRP Operator 1911 (New as of Saturday), S&W MP15X, and a Walther .40 P99QA. For a project rifle I am looking to purchase & build-up a Springfield M1A over the next year.

Have a good 1

Mosin Nagant M91/30 - sporterized or rather in the process of being sporterized
FNH 57 - w/ green laser and silencer
Serbu Super Shorty/ Moss 500
Saiga 12 - converted
Henry lever action 22
LWRC REPR .308!!!
Crappy 22 rifle - gave it to a friend, i hated that gun. It was a marlin

When a post starts to get old it moves down the list as new posts are added. By proofing to the post it " bumps" it to the top of the list making it relevant again. Sometimes the person has nothing to say, but just wants to move it up so they type "bump".

Been reading this site for awhile and decided to join and throw my 2 cents in on occasion. I was born and raised in CA and it certainly isn't the state it once was. I do think Calguns has the right approach in trying to stem the loss of our rights and moving the ball forward in our favor, hence the reason for joining. Hopefully we all can make a positive contribution.

Cheers!

I joined this site because after reading about how Calguns is fighting for our 2A rights in a manner other than just lobbying and pandering to legislators. They are getting the job done in the courts by picking their fights wisely and I believe it is the right approach. But I've been reading all over this site but yet to come to a good answer to "Who is a Calgun member". Obviously the Board of Directors, Regional Directors, etc are members. But Junior member? How does one get the title of "senior member"? Based on how much time you have been in the forum? Volunteerism? From reading the donate page it seems you get to add "contributor" to your posts, but does that make you a member?? Are there dues to be a full fledged member or is a member of Calguns just someone who signed up for this forum? If its just who ever signs up to be on the forum is a member, I suppose any member of the Brady Campaign or any anti gun group can sign up and say they are a member. Just very curious.

Be warned as number of posts doesn't always equate to quality of posts.

Contributors are those that have decided to contribute ($) to Calguns (CGN) and receive "contributor privileges" (you can find out more about that here (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/payments.php))

It is true, everyone can sign up to be a member, brady or otherwise.

However, many of the legal actions taken to overturn frivolous, archaic, and capricious laws are taken up by the Calguns Foundation (CGF) which is operated separately.

Just to add to Ubermcoupe's post...

Calguns.net (CGN) doesn't have a Board of Directors. It's a private forum owned by Head Janitor, Kestryll. Further, it's not to be confused with The Calguns Foundation (CGF) (http://www.calgunsfoundation.org/) which is a 501(c)3 non-profit. CGN does have a Board of Directors.

Finally, members of the Brady Campaign and other anti-civil rights groups are welcome to join us and discuss issues. Polite conversation between opposing positions is always encouraged.

Welcome to Calguns.

There’s quite a few members on the boards and you’ll see/hear/read/pick up on some lingo that will tip you off (if you’re familiar of course). Then there are a few members who out themselves and there have also been some threads on it or related issues in the OT section.

Just found this great site and wanted to introduce myself.... I'm looking into an AR, and will most likely have a bunch of questions in regards to the model I am looking at, and the legality of it in Calif. I have read a bunch of the legal stuff on AR's that are deemed legal for Calif, but the terminology seems way to vague to be absolutely sure one is in compliance with the law. Again, looks like a great site!!

Hello All

I've been lurking for a while, mainly watching the San Joaquin CCW thread. Recently became the owner of my first gun, an FNP-9. Currently halfway through my waiting period on a Ruger 10/22 that I'm going to use to introduce my two sons (11 & 14) to shooting. This will be a big departure since, even though my dad kept guns around the house, including three on a gun rack by our front door, touching, asking or inquiring about them was expressly forbidden. Actually shooting them was not even a topic of consideration. As such, I grew up with thinking guns were some kind of WMDs that were to be avoided. Only recently did some friends talk me into it and finally, at age 38, I joined the masses in expressing my 2nd amendment rights. Now the question is, do I want to eat dinner or add to my growing collection!

Hi All,

I just recently found out about this site, and have had delusions of building my own .556 for years now, but being the El Cheapo that I am, I don't want to waste a cent. Many of the people I know that have AR's have acknowledged spending far more than necessary. I only know one true member of the "gun culture" to ask all my questions of, but he's usually traveling for work and unavailable, and I need somebody to confirm (or deny) claims made by the shop I go to for answers. I spent the first 20 years of my adult life buying El Cheapo guns and I need to bury that approach with a quality .556. I'm looking forward to using this site, and the occasional question, to help me do just that. I would like to build three quality, battle-ready .556's over the next ten years.

Eric,

Welcome to Calguns!

I would suggest looking into the Centerfire rifle section (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/forumdisplay.php?f=67) to get an idea as to the specs you might be interested or to solve any outstanding questions you may have.

Then I would hit the marketplace and look for a deal. With the numbers or ARs and parts out there you should be able to pick up a barely used AR + gear for a steal/deal. That’t how I picked up my complete Stag Arms AR.

Best of luck in the search and don’t be shy about searching/asking questions when you buddy isn’t around. :)

Welcome to Calguns and congrats on the G35! CGN is a great way to help pass the time. I would recommend checking out the handguns section (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/forumdisplay.php?f=66) and posting in the “What do you have in Jail (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=131544)” Thread.

Just checking in. Still learning more about guns every day. Light to moderate user. The doctor says with a support group I should be ok... Wait which forum is this? Haha
Mostly into pistols, buts have been buying some rifles lately. I recently got a Savage 308, a Russian SKS, and a couple shot guns just for good measure.
My next "rifle is going to be a Kriss Vector SMG, just because everybody else is buying AR's, I thought I'd be different, besides I already have a truckload of 45 rounds.
I really want a CCW and my record is clean enough, but being in Sacramento county, looks like I'll have to play the waiting game or wait till 2013
I think I should be able to conceal the Kriss wearing the right shirt, haha

Hello everyone! I am new here, I just found this while doing a search about the penal code in California & if you have to re-take the 16hour course just because you move to a new county. I had a CCW, then moved, was told that I was a "new" applicant with a one-year waiting list just to get an appointment & that I had to re-take the 16-hour course to get a permit in Sacramento County. I couldn't find that in the penal code (now I can't even find that) & am wondering if anyone knows the answer to that, but maybe I am posting this in the wrong forum.
So to introduce myself, I was born in Cali & moved out for 5 years to Colorado, which was awesome, but my family was all out here, so I reluctantly moved back to the home of Feinstein & Boxer, both of which I think I have been voting against for all of my life! Elections here are too frustrating! Who would have ever thought Jerry Brown would be governor again after screwing it up so badly the first time?
I am a firm believer in our Constitution and the 2nd Amendment, & hate how it's being trampled on & fear for our country.
It's great to find a forum with people who won't disagree with EVERYTHING I say!!!! lol:oji:

Hello everyone, my name is Juan. I live in Burbank, California. I am college student who plans on majoring on environmental health. I currently do not own any firearms but plan on owning one this year. Also, I'm currently reading "How to own a gun and stay out of jail" by John Machtinger. It's very informative book. I would recommend this book to everyone. Further more, what inspired me to get a firearm was the t.v. series Top Shot. and other documentaries

I look forward to share ideas with everyone. Thank you.

Just joined today! Thanks for all the great info. I recently just took a handgun safety class and loved it!! Especially the gun range part! Been researching what me 1st gun should be. I figured a 9mm for my wife and I. After hearing everyone say Glock this Glock that, I ultimately didn't like the feel in my hand. Next I kept reading about SA XDm's. As i researched, I found that I live in a state that really restricts what I can and can't buy. How many rounds I'm limited to. I can't even test an XDm. I did enjoy my experience with an XD and I've read that the XDm's are even better. But how do I get one in CA?!!? Thanks to CalGuns, I've learned all about the laws and especially some exemptions. I'm currently waiting for my new XDm 9mm 4.5" (Bitone) to come in!!! I can't wait!!!! Thanks Calguns!! I'm still learning how to shoot and building my armory so I hope the Zombie Apocalypse doesn't happen anytime soon!!

This is such an awesome site. My wife and I recently decided we would pick up a handgun for home defense. Although we both have many relatives who own guns, my general knowledge of guns was limited to a small number of manufacturers; process of how to obtain one was nonexistent. CG and it's members really helped open our eyes to what is available and answer a lot of my questions.

After firing a good number, we decided on a PX4 as our first (pickup is scheduled for next Mon). The new one isn't in our hands yet and we are already eyeballing a 686/GP100 next.

Thanks again

I have a Ruger .357 Revolver, a Glock 19 that I just picked up last Monday and have yet to fire, and a 30.06 rifle. I'd really like to get involved in shooting groups or activities but don't know any. My goal is to learn my guns better, improve my accuracy and do what I can to protect our 2nd Amendment right. I just joined the NRA a week ago. I bought a Life membership. Anyways, thought I'd introduce myself.

Hello everyone, great forum. Googling for Ca gun laws and found it very helpful so far. I own a few handguns, rifles, and shotguns. OnTarget range is my closest local range, and I go a few times a month. I also just started reloading 45acp and 9mm, so far it's been fun.

I hope to keep up on Ca laws, places to shoot, gun reviews, and all things guns here.

Relative noob here but I have tried the search and it brought me here but I still cannot find what "SBF" means in for sale forum. I do like how what you search for comes up red in the forums but I could not make it through 51 pages! Maybe I just need coffee this am but if someone could answer I would appreciate it.

Cheers

:)First things first, and that would be a post in this thread!! New member from Riverside County, been shooting all types of weapons since I was 11 years old, so that has been for a LONG time...:D....I am a CA native, but lived for quite a while in Michoacan, Mexico where I worked in our family store and as a bodyguard/driver for the local prosecutor and as a Security Consultant/Analyst for a neighboring county. Now I am a Security Officer with a CA BSIS Open Carry License. I would like to obtain my CCW for Riverside County primarily for Executive Protection work. Open to all your comments, suggestions, stories, and hints as how to accomplish this or how you accomplished getting yours!! Thank you all!!! :)

Hi everyone. I found this site while trying to google how difficult it is to get a CCW in El Dorado County. I'm currently stationed in NC, but I am from the east bay originally, and I plan on moving to the sacramento area sometime in the next 6 - 9 months to go to college at Sac State. So far I've seen lots of good info up here, and I hope to be able to contribute sometime in the future.

I signed up today after spending a lot of time reading about the gun laws in California and the different experiences members have had in this state. About myself- I've been in the Navy for 5 years, transferred here in 2009, and I'm originally from Colorado. I spent 4 years on a minesweeper and deployed 3 times to Bahrain, spending about 2 years there during those deployments. I own a Mossberg 590 and I just purchased a Springfield XD 45 (9 more days until I can pick it up). I'm here because I want to know about current legislature and what I can do as a citizen to protect the rights of gun owners in California. Thanks!

Hey! New here and I will be a first time firearms owner in another 8 days (thanks, CA, for a chance to "cool-off" because I now undoubtedly regret not getting the HK45 8 days ago.) I reside in Placer County and I would greatly appreciate any and all info/directions to the nearest BLM areas where I can enjoy private time with my new friend. I rather allot the price of range fees toward gas expense and ammo at a BLM area. Many thanks in advance!

Hello from the SF Bay Area!
Calguns has been a fantastic source of information in figuring out the multitude of CA gun laws, as well as a great place to read people's reviews and opinions, so it's about time I registered.
