So Big 5 has standard blue with wood stock 10/22's on sale this week for $229.99 AND today and tomorrow has a $20 off coupon for firearms over $20 via their email coupons if you signed up for them. Is this a good deal or should I wait for some holiday sale? Anyone get one for less recently? I'm just wanting a basic open site rifle that I have no intention of modifying. Already have a scoped stainless 10/22.

Just my opinion, but I think you can get a better price.

How much is your time worth? I wouldn't spend a ton of time and effort looking to save an extra $5 on a $200 gun, but that's just me.

Bought mine from big5 without the coupon - $229. Done and done.

IMO not a bad deal. i haggled and got mine for like $224 when it was selling for $269. i told them i'd buy 2 guns if they gave me a deal and they did. this was during Christmas time tho

That's a great price considering I've got about 1k in my 10/22..... Then again there are no Ruger parts left in mine except the trigger housing....

I'd go for it, pretty good price. I think there was a crazy promotion last year when the broke 200, but waiting for a sale like that isn't worth 10 bucks. Pull the trigger!

Bought mine last month at Turners for $199 with a free Appleseed coupon. If it weren't for the coupon, I would have gladly paid an extra $20 to not have to go to Turners.

I paid the 229 at big 5 just to say out of a turners store. Big 5 is 1.2 miles from my house and turners is 45-50 miles one way plus, I refuse to support turners anymore. So what is your time worth to you? Big 5 was great for me, 10 min in and out....

Sounds like a good deal. I got mine during the $229 sale and I used a 10% off coupon to get it down to $249 out the door including the DROS and tax at a Big 5 here in the Bay Area (Sunnyvale).

too bad Big 5 doesnt price match. i told them Turner has it for X amount and they said no.

but i might consider that just to avoid the long wait times.

Well turners is ok if you want to wait for at least 2 hours to get helped at the counter, at least 2.5 hous if you actually buy something, and not to mention you get treated like a criminal like you shouldn't even be buying a gun. Every personnel problem they have they try to blame on a new computer system that has been "new" for a year already and no one takes responsibility for the crappy employees they have.

Not sure where you are but $199 seems to be the usual good sale price at Ammo Bros and it comes around fairly frequently. I think it dips to $179 around black friday or sale sale prices at a few locations. Or you can buy a used one on the FS board here for more than new...

That's going to be your average price these days. Factor in gas and time for a $10 deal somewhere else and you're going to break even. There have been deals in the past, I got mine for $189, but watching prices now, you're not going to get that deal easily. Buy it and don't price check afterwards or you'll drive yourself nutso.

Hmm...I just went to Turner's Pasadena today (1:30PM) and bought one of these CalGuns special price 10/22s.
Lots of customers were there but also 7-8 people working the counter.
I took a number and in less than 5 minutes it was my turn.
Ted the counterman was very helpfull, pleased to see a CalGunner, and broke out a brand new 10/22 Takedown for me to check out while he did the paperwork.
There were two people working the cash register so even paying went quick.
Everything went super smooth and I was on my way home in less than 30 minutes....a totally pleasurable gun-buying experience.

Thanx, Turner's Passadena!
I'll be back soon for a 10/22 TD and one of those Browning 1911-22s as well.
:)

Plus no one has mentioned yet turners charges $35 for dros correct I just bought a 795 from big 5 and they only charge $25 so that's a $10 savings there.

Also big 5 does not price match but they will give you sell price or at least that's what they did for me was $199 told them turners had them for $160 they sold it to me for $165.

That's why put the correct I have not bought a gun at turners or done a ppt in awhile couldn't remember just knew it was in the 30's.

So $5 savings still something right lol.

yes i also have been snubed at turners, but one time a sales person spent time printing out info on savage mark 2 rifles. he showed me about 4 of them. i ended up getting my FV at ammo bros cuzz they had a FV in stock. this one time the guy treated me real nice.
picked up a savage 64 at big 5 for 159 with cheapo scope combo. i was impressed with the quality of the parts inside a 159 dollar savage 64. little plastic.

The ones in Merced, Atwater and Madera are pretty good. The managers are nice and helpful. There was one manager that was a real tool one time but the other ones have always wanted to sell. When I want a gun I know what I want and it seems they will exercise as much freedom given to them by corporate HQ to make a sale. For example a few years ago I was looking at Mosin Nagants and they gave me a sale price on one that wasn't in affect until the next week and on one occasion the sale had expired and they gave it to me without me even asking. Actually he voluntarily told me about it and I didn't even know. It also seems their managers have at least a basic knowledge of firearms.
