All, I have a 1979 model mini 14. Bought from a man who worked for CA state prison. I was initially excited about my new (really used) rifle and noticed the front sight had a crack on the bottom of it. After closer examination I saw that it was a CA legal front sight, it was a winged style muzzle break combo with a set screw and drive pin. Problem comes in now... when I wanted a replacement for it they are nowhere to be found... They have the flash hider/winged style sights available all day long, but here in this wonderful state my freedoms are limited and that is a no no (BS flag raised). So, the question is... does anyone have any info on the old style winged/muzzle break front sight assemblies for the mini 14? I really just want her back in original condition so I can take her out and enjoy her!

Note: I AM NOT referring to the John Masen sights, they are too long and I personally don't like the look of 'em... Thanks all!

You could check this page out as they sell a CA compliant muzzle brake/front sight assembly.

http://www.mo-rod.com/

May also want to look into getting one of their barrel struts to enhance accurracy on your older thin barreled Mini.

FYI for the best Mini information online is over at www.perfectunion.com .

You get answers to you Mini questions and learn a lot about your rifle as well.

Not to pick, but the OP posted this very clearly in his post:

"Note: I AM NOT referring to the John Masen sights, they are too long and I personally don't like the look of 'em..."

I Think that means he already knows about the item you linked, and said specifically that he didn't want it.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm really liking the look of the mo rod... i'll have to get pictures up of the broken sight, I think the damn thing was fabricated out of thin air...

Is this what you are talking about?

Not sure if it's CA legal.

Why worry about a crack? The front sight is not a high-stress part. Worst case, get it welded and refinished.
