After debating whether to pick up a DW Valor via SSE, TRS, SA PRO, Ed Brown SF, or build another 1911 using a SA Milspec frame... I counted pennies and found a deal almost to good too be true (thanks CJ).

Proud new owner. :) Now the wait begins! :o

Ordered with following options:

1.5" guarantee @ 50 yds
No FCS
No rollmarks
Match (long) trigger
Checkered MSH
Single-sided safety

Can't wait!

Everything you need, nothing you don't. Sounds like a rock solid no frills 1911. You can always dress her up later if you so desire. Congrats.

Nothing wrong with checking. ;) Just don't let your significant other know (unless they shoot, too)... :D

Thanks. Exactly, I wanted a non-fancy, no nonsense solid 1911 to add to my collection. I believe the options I chose, most of them no-cost, fit the bill.

Bought one recently from Crazy John at 1911 heaven, It is a work of art and the accuracy is superb!. I chose the 1.5 inch guarantee option, and no front slide serrations, the gun is classic looking and has everything you need in a 1911. Check out the video on youtube that shows how Les builds his guns from the ground up and the custom assembling process, very impressive!!

FWIW, I ordered a TRS with a similar config as you. Probably should have opted for the CC, since it's basically the same thing but cheaper price.

TRS I ordered with no FS, no markings, speed trigger, tactical mag release.

24 weeks feels like a looooooooooong time.

I've almost picked up a Wilson, and Nighthawk in the interim. Must resist...

Snoopy47,

It's what ever Les Baer puts on them. I had a barrel link break, and while they fixed it under warranty I had them recoat it. I just use and abuse it too much to continue with it blued.

Same gun after a day of fun. I wasn't testing or anything. I was doing training drills in the mud lying on my back weak hand only that included reloads. So I was loading muddy mags into a muddy gun, and it was going boom when I needed it to.

The finish got beat all to hell so I went with the coating now.

I confess to being a Les Baer fanboy. When I took delivery of my first, a TRS about 6 years ago I had a Kimber and Wilson Combat CQB. After thinking about it for a long time the Kimber and Wilson found new owners. The Baer is just that kind of a gun. It has a soul, mine does anyway. 17,000 rounds and going strong. Never sell that baby.

15 yards 8 rounds freehand. 230g. Golden Saber HP's over 7.4g. of Power Pistol. A very hard recoiling load but the most accurate one I have used so far.

Call up Crazy John. I emailed him for a quote, but he just replied back saying to shoot him a call at 208-772-2339. I probably ended up speaking to him for $15 minutes and got the impression he's a really awesome guy that is not about rushing a sale, and he has great prices to boot. I even got a history lesson in some of the f'd up CA gun control laws (AW ban).

There's no question about it, I'm buying my Baer from Crazy John. Just need to nail down what I want in my special order :)

I just checked my cell phone call log, email from John, and the website (http://cj1911heaven.com/). Try calling again in a few minutes. Took a few rings until he picked up my call, but I had called at 4:30 Pacific, and I think he's Mountain Time. Good luck.

Well, the legs of the barrel where the barrel link is pined were too thin, and ended up chipping. The chip locked the gun up, and I used compressed air to dislodge it so I could field strip it.

This is like 10K or so rounds at the time.

http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv124/motoman47/DSCN08261.jpg

Now, I also ruined a barrel of my own accord with a squib at 1700 rounds. But it was replaced by LB on my dime. The barrel you see above is that LB replacement done by LB. They fixed it under warranty. But this gun is on its third barrel.

Had I never ruined the first barrel this wouldn't have happened, but it is an LB barrel installed by LB.

Also, I was an idiot, and was dry firing with homemade dummy rounds, where I REMOVED the primer, and the firing pin ended up getting stuck in the primer pocket, and I bent the pin tring to get it apart (simple fix, by replacing the pin).

I'm still on my first extractor and it's on 12,000 rounds.

Thanks Freq. Had a good chat with him. He is Baer's number 1 distributor so for those of you who are looking to get one, ping him right away. Email him first to have him call you. His number always comes up with a busy signal.

John has plenty of Baer's in stock so no need to wait 2-6 mos for one.

And +1 on the good chat, I just had one call with him but he seems like a pleasure to deal with. The only bad part is that he doesn't have any 1.5" guarantee TRS in stock, so I'm going to have to wait the 20-24 weeks.

Late to the party here, but all those Baers look sweet. FWIW, I'm another guy who sold (two) perfectly good Kimbers after getting a Baer. Baer's just have that kind of a special feel to them. I usually run ball, lead roundnose, and Winchester Ranger or Federal HST. Baer TRS simply shoots much better than I do.

Awesome looking, and shooting, pistol Shenaniguns!

He's a one man shop and has contributed on this site as a member in the past, not everyone has the time or money to be a sponsor here.
