I finally had a chance to take my son out and let him shoot my M&P 15-22... He's been waiting for a couple months now and I couldn't pass up the opportunity that we had this last Saturday. My son is 9 and has been out a few times with me, shooting my XD9.... and whatever other people at the range let him try out.

So we went out Saturday afternoon with the M&P 15-22, the XD9 and his BB gun.... He had a huge grin on his face after going through the first mag in the M&P "This is my favorite gun" he says! I just sat back and loaded mags for a while.... we had a great time!

Oh, he was using the irons... I just got the red dot and haven't sighted it in yet

worthless without pics... I know. So here you go

Very nice OP -- can't see his face but I bet your son had a huge grin! :D
I got the 15-22 not too long after they came out a few years ago. When I had to explain to my wife why I needed another rifle, I said it was for our kids (though for some reason I shoot it the most!). The 15-22s are so much fun! Plus it's been an excellent learning platform for the AR operating system. My oldest son has now graduated to his own AR and the 15-22 has been passed down to my younger son. My daughter (the youngest) has already asked for her own... when that time comes, I'll probably paint it pink :p.

Excellent. I am going to take my daughter out and let her shoot my 10/22, now that I have one.

There is no better spent time than that time spent with your family.

Nice, get him interested sooner than later.

I need to take my nephew, he just turned 12 yesterday.

i have 2 grand sons 10& 8. i now have a 22 for each of us to shoot. i hope they do not get tired of a 22 like my son in law says they will. when i was a boy i loved shooting a 22. it seems today even kids want to blast away with a more powerful gun.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments :)

I didn't grow up around guns, I actually just got into this hobby / lifestyle back in October of last year and wanted to teach my kids the rules, responsibilty, safety and fun that can be had as a gun owner as soon as I could (which started before my first gun came home)... even my 5 year old has been to the "range" with me. I am really excited that they are getting this experience and foundation early on!

His birthday is in August - I am gonna try and talk the wife into letting me pick up a .22 rifle that he can call his own (he kind of wants a bolt action since I have the 15-22).... we'll see.
