Banned for over two decades, Colt and ArmaLite have returned to the CA market and I've just scoped one of each of mine:

Colt M-4 Magpul MOE model in OD green with Pride Fowler 1-4x scope with Rapid Reticle and offset PFI red dot --

ArmaLite SPR-1 CA model with Nightforce 2.5-10X scope in their new unimount.

The Colt comes with Magpul plastic BUIS, and the Armalite with very similar ARMS BUIS
Since they're polymer, should we call them BUPS?

Oh my! And I heard Bushmaster is back too! Of course this makes things interesting because you have the same receiver from the same company but one is a felony and the other is not just because of the roll mark. That's just stupid!

I have an SPR Mod - 1 upper and I really like it. I just upgraded it with one of the new gunfighter mod 4 charging handles.

Are the colt pins still drilled so that they are incompatible with other manufacturers ARs?

Small surprise that Colt is taking an interest in the CA market, now that Remington took their military business.

I'll wait and see how the street pricing shakes out on their CA offerings before getting excited.

Looks like Armalite has added to their game from the usual models they have been running around with for many years...

the Colts are old news at this point

seems quite a few of you have lives outside of the Internet, how could you?

I was thinking the same thing as FourLoko. I had seen them online about a month ago. And they are all doing uppers as well. Saw them over at Just Guns. Don't know if they're doing lowers or not though...

I understand the Colt, but what is so "original" about an Eagle Arms?

I assume you're joking because while this ArmaLite isn't exactly the same company that invented the AR rifle back in 1956 (any more than Springfield Armory is the same company that supplied arms back in the Civil war) it is the current incarnation of the original company that made the first ARs before they licensed the designs to Colt. And Colt and THIS ArmaLite were some of the first AWs banned by name and model number here that "originally" screwed us.

I am totally a Colt fanatic, but I won't be buying any of their AR's unless they have more options available. If they can make a replica of the M16A2 (with a 1:7 twist gov't profile barrel) which I have come to know and love when I began my military service 8 years ago, I'll buy it.

As an aside, it kills me that nobody except for maybe one other gun nut in my unit appreciate the rifles we have in our arms room. Some of our Colt lowers are actually ex-M16A1 lowers that have had the "A1" stricken out and M16A2 rollmarked underneath it. To others it's not a big deal, but I would die to have one of those lowers!

Colt ARs are by far the one of the best if not the best on the market. They hold up well can't say that about some of the others on the market and I have had several ARs with the first one bought in 71 then a carbine in 76 then sold them during the first evil rifle ban in around 89 at a good profit. Then bought 2 sporters that were well used by many friends and those were sold again at a good profit in the 90s ban. Colts have the highest quality of parts. I am not sure if the real Armalite company made AR15s commercial or military contract.

What is the deal that made them OK now ? I also like the JAE pics you posted, thanks. On a side note, I drive by the place where Armalite was in Costa Mesa all the time. I make a sound as though the heavens has opened every time. I'm still 13 at heart.

What is the deal that made them OK now ? ...

 Different names inscribed on the lower?

Example: Is NOT a Colt "AR-15" or a Colt "Sporter" per http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf . As shown above is a Colt "M4 Carbine".

Beautiful rifles, insignias just exude pure evil :43: The OD also looks awesome on that Armalite. Now I have some AR envy

on a legal note: could this help (to further) the current AW, or a new AW case If cops start arresting people with these new legal Armalites/colts/bushys? Go towards the confusing nature of the law and show that it cannot be enforced?

that armalite upper and lower are or were made by aero precision, I have the Aero precision mono upper and the lower, its exactly the same, and it has been anounced by both companies that its true. So does that make Aero precision just as good as Armalite, since armalite is Aero precision?

Pardon me if I don't jump for joy. Bad back, you know...

I am glad that you like your rifles. They look nice and all. But I don't really see the attraction for a gun with My Little Pony on it. Colt was perfectly happy to throw us under the bus. And they have had crappy customer service for decades. Why would I bother going and getting one now? I am just as happy getting a lower from a company that HAS supported us, and picking up a used SP1 upper online. Heck, it is even cheaper to do it that way. Same with the M16A2. Those pop up on Gunbroker fairly often for much less than the cost of a new Colt as well.

How did Colt throw us under the bus? They can SLAMMED by CA state -- banned by model number in six different ways til sunday -- they even tried to make a Colt Sporter that had no FS and sold that until the State figured out to ban by features. EVERY manufacturer accepted their fate until the good fellas here at CG figured out how to make these guns legal, and then when they saw it was true they jumped in.

I still give kudos to Robison Arms for making MM and BB rifles available if not first pretty close to it --
