My CGN search-foo must be off because I can't find old threads on this. I have an FAL with a 21" barrel and a scope that I would like to get a soft case for.

I have a Midway soft case that was a bit of a disappointment. It is great looking and pretty well put together but the charging handle of my Saiga ripped right through the flimsy interior material and started gouging the foam lining after only one or two trips to the range in the car trunk.

So I'm looking for suggestions on some better quality soft cases based on personal experience. I generally prefer a case that just fits the rifle, although I am also thinking that the "nondescript" squared-off soft cases that some companies are offering might be desirable. Hoping to spend in the area of $50-$80 but would definitely go higher for long-lasting quality. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Thank you for the help!

I'm pretty sure that more than one guy uses a soft case, LOL. I would appreciate hearing the "go for it" and "stay away from it" experiences you all have had.

Thanks!

I use a rectangular soft case just long enough for my rifle with the stock collapsed. There are lots of companies that make this style case.

For more discrete take-down carry I've used a 20" duffel. A 16" upper and full lower squeeze into it just fine and it doesn't scream GUN INSIDE.

I use the following. Has been holding up fine the few months I've had it. Got it off the recommendation by another CG'er in a similar thread a while back.

I like that it doesnt look like a "gun case", could be a musical instrument in there for all anyone knows.

Remember to use the CG Amazon link if you decide to buy it. ;)

Picked up a Bass gig bag from Guitar Center (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Road-Runner-Roadster-Bass-Gig-Bag-104648449-i1400669.gc), sewed some retention straps in there and drilled out holes in the zipper for luggage locks.

Nice thing about the bass length is I have room for a larger rifle if I want. I like the multiple handles and the backpack straps as well. Haven't taken it out yet but i think it'll serve me well.

I'm pretty happy with my 5.11 double rifle case. I think the quality is a bit better than the Voodoo (just my opinion). The bag is a little tight in regards to width bit it handles my AR and Benelli M4. However I currently do not have a side saddle on the M4 and am wondering if it will present any problems when I add it.

Get the VooDoo Tactical double rifle bag. I was able to get a 36" version on sale through Sportsman's Guide for like $55 shipped. You can use the regular handles, a shoulder sling, or the backpack straps to carry it around. I actually use it to carry 3 rifles at once (2 AR's and one 10/22 Marauder kit w/ stock folded).

Condor is gtg too. It's like the voodoo double rifle bag. The one I have comes with three mole pouches already and plenty of room for my ar15, lr308, and an extra 16" ar upper in the 2nd pocket, plus all my mags in the molle pouches.

Yup +1 for the Voodoo Tactical. The price is unbeatable for what you get. I have hauled my rifle, SG and pistol + gear to many an IDPA/3 gun match and general range day with 0 issues besides all that crap in one bag being heavy as piss lol. Thank god it's got backpack straps with it.:p

Go to autozone and buy some vacuum caps that fit snug over the charging handle so you will stop ripping the interiors of your bags. I do this with my midway bags and they are holding up great.
