View Full Version : Need Help - clicks for 168 grain Federal Gold Medal Match 308

I will soon take out my new 30" 308 rifle to the range.
It will have a Sightron SIII scope with the 1/4 clicks.

Since I am not reloading yet, I will initially use Federal Gold Medal Match 168 grain.

I was hoping someone might be able to provide me with a formula or with a click chart for this ammo. I intend to zero at 100 yards and would like to be able to adjust the elevation to 200 / 300 / 400 / 500 / 600.

I will be using an MOA reticle and 1/4 MOA clicks

I know this may be basic to most, but I am just starting to get into this great sport.

Any help would be appreciated.

Beat thing is to go to federal's website and they have a ballistics calculator. You pick the caliber and bulley type and it will give tou all the way out to 1000 yards and wind drift.

Does ur scope have mildots or a mil-based reticle? I know the hold overs using mil-dots. This is with a 20" barrel pushing the bullets at around 2675-2700. Ur using a 30" so velocity will be faster and drop will be slightly less. When talking about adjustment we talk in either units of Minute of Angle(moa) or Milliradians(mils).

100-0 mils
150-0.2 mils
200-0.5 mils
300-1.3 mils
350-1.7 mils
400-2.2 mils
450-2.7 mils
500-3.2 mils
550-3.8 mils
600-4.3 mils

to convert mils to moa multiply by 3.6

ex.: with rifle zeroed at 100 you want to dial your DOPE for 400 in moa:

2.2 x 3.6=7.92 round up to 8minutes or 32"clicks" with a scope that has 1/4minute clicks.

Everybody will agree JBM is the ballistics resource to use. You might say "wtf" at first, but give it a try and enter:

Sierrra 0.308 168gr BTHP Matchking
With a 30" bbl, estimate about 2650 fps
Average sight height is 1.7"
Double-check your altitude, temp, pressure & humidity

Let her rip.
