View Full Version : Pistol caliber rifle suggestions

Wanting another rifle and I am leaning more toward something in a pistol caliber. Looking for suggestions from other calgunners. Preferably I would like to stay in the sub-$500 range. No real caliber preference at the moment, and I would be reloading for it, so retail ammo costs aren't a factor. Planning on shooting in the 50-75 yard range. Biggest question is if the sub-2000 can be had in CA, and if so what is the general consensus on quality, I had an SU-16 and I was less than impressed, but the GF's uncle is always raving about his sub-2000 every time I talk to him, and I have yet to shoot one.

In any other state maybe but with the 10 round limit in Cali having the Glock and beretta mag option really is not a big benefit unless of course you own some of the mags already. I might take some heat for this but the Hi-point carbines are not bad. They come in the 9,40 and 45. Lifetime warranty with good accuracy in the range you spoke of. I have one in 9mm for simple cheap plinking. Since you hand load you an make good loads for them b/c they are +p rated. All I can say is I am happy with mine.

OP, do you have an AR platform rifle? If so, get a 9mm upper. Problem solved

i have been trying to figure out this very thing. currently my funds are strapped, i have 8 glock 22 magazines(4 pre bans), and that sub 2000 is tempting. i just can not find it.

if i can find it i can wipe a 5.56 off my list(for now:p) and get 7.62/308.

Scratch the whole ar upper bud.
I'm gonna agree with the other gentleman above and say HiPoint, I as well have the 9mm version and its pretty awesome.
But with that said, the sub2k is a good choice as well. It is cool but definitely different. I shot one 1 time and it was pretty cool.

Lever action .357, .44, or .45.

Other than my M14 the level action is my second favorite rifle to shoot.

Ruger 77 in .357 is what is on my wish list. Bolt action with rotary clip. Next in line would be a lever action.
