Hi everyone. Well the wifey is knocked up and my son is due in a couple months. To commemorate his birth I would like to buy a small .22 cowboy pistol and have his name and birdcage engraved on it. My question is, what is a good one to buy. I'm looking for a well made, gonna last a lifetime, gun that my son will be proud of till he is old. Please help with this subject as my knowledge of rimfire is very limited.

Ruger Bearcat.

Excellent little pistol and worth keeping.

He can pass it on to his children.

I'll second Ruger Bearcat. It is a well made accurate, small single action revolver, that fit little hands very well. I gave Bearcats to my kids and never regret it.

Another vote for the Ruger Bearcat here. Its a solid pistol and if taken care of, it will out live us all.

Bearcat hands down (well, little hands anyway).

I vote for the Bearcat also but I might be a little bias because I'm a Ruger nut.

My first pistol was a Ruger Bearcat, purchased new by my father in 1968 for $38.50.

Bearcat.
Your kids can give it to their kids, who can give it to their kids....and it will still be working perfect.

With 10" barrel and longer sight radius and 22WRM it should be good for real hunting as well as plinking.

As much as I love my heritage, get the bearcat, it'll be something he gives his grandson...

Go with a Ruger Single Six or Ruger Bearcat.
I have a Ruger Single Six Convertible two cylinders one for .22LR the other for .22 mag. Very accurate revolver and very well made.
also can be gotten in either stainless or blued. Mine is Stainless with real stag grips

Id go for the Bearcat or a single six
I replaced the standard grips on mine with a birdshead setup and my son has been able to shoot it comfortably since he was 10

Was the first post from an iPhone? I'm guessing name and birdcage was supposed to be name and birthday?
Or am I wrong?

There is one more item that will improve look and feel of the Bearcat. Stainless steel (or blue steel) ejector housing, factory is aluminum and just look wrong on the gun.
Two places you can buy them, (I got lucky last month and picked Bowen on Ebay)

Not sure where you are, but there is a BNIB bearcat up on the for sale board here by a calgunner in Temecula (not me or anyone I know).

It's a PPT so prolly cheaper than ordering new and paying sales tax too.
