Went to Angeles bright and early. Unpacked the old Remington 700 PSS, 26" barrel, Vari-x III 4.5-14 scope, and armed finally with good ballistic data, went to work on the steel targets with just the bipod.

3" group on the tiny pig plate at 600 yards!!

If I've done my homework correctly, and 1 MOA at 600 is just about 6 inches -- this reflects 1/2 MOA accuracy? If this is true, not only was the rifle shooting 1/2 MOA, but *I* was shooting 1/2 MOA, which, well, what?? No wind to speak of, so it's not that great, but still, that's pretty good for an old guy with old eyes with an old gun?

I can already feel that people are going to say they are doing this everyday shooting offhand with iron sights on their Mosins and Mausers.

That's weak, I can do that with my Mark III at night during a hurricane. JK. That's pretty sweet. I get giddy hitting bullseye at 100 yards with my Remy

Good work. I understand the aging eyes aspect and so will accept today's vicarious living through your post. Cool brother!

I was shooting 3/4 Moa last week at 700y in a 8-14 mph crosswind. But I was cheating!!!!!! I was using precision hand loads through my DTA SRS in .338lm.

Awesome shooting op. long range ftw.

Well the exact thought was "ok, I'll try to take this up to 800-1000 yards now, and when I get consistent I'll start to think about a .300 or .338. Problem is there's only one 1,000 yard range I know of in reasonable driving distance (Piru). Angeles ends at 600 (didn't they go to 700 at one time?). 800-900 just doesn't seem to be in the cards unless I find a place out in the desert. Where do you shoot 700-1000 yards?

(Thanks for encouragement!)

Sounds good to me. :)

At 100 yards, my ar15barrels made 1.25" truck axle 260 remington ...is one ragged hole. At 1K yards I get consistent 6" groups, your 3" groups is about what I would expect from my rifle if I tried to get groups at 600 yards ( I just bang metal at that range )

I live in this sticks so I shoot on private property or BLM land. Closest range is 2 hours away and only goes to 200:(

Thats the one thing I miss since moving south. Tapping that pig and making the rooster at 300 spin.

Not trying to be a total jackass but how did you measure that group? They don't let you walk out to 600 yards do they?

No, only out to 300 (says their website... I've only seen people put targets at 200 though). It was freshly painted so I could see the hits clearly. No micrometer but it was definitely a 3 inch group based relatively on the size of the pig.
