I have two winchester 88's, one is a pre 64 (ser#122xxx) in 243 with a weaver 4x scope on it. The condition is about 95ish and has about 40 rounds down the pipe. The other is a post 64 (ser#166xxx) 308 no scope and was only shot to sight in on paper and shoot one deer, total of 11 shots fired in this rifle, and I would say this rifle is almost new. Does anyone know what the value of the rifles might be? I got them at a great price and have no Idea what they are worth. no rust, stock dings, or wearing of the finish, these rifles were kept in a safe for the last 25 to 30 years and have always been is a case, and have not seen the field in about 25 years or more.

Thank you.

I just bought a 1st year 88 in 308. It's difficult matching descriptions but mine has 100% bluing and no stock dings, just a slight finish scratch or two that was eliminated with some Fairtrimmers. The mag and mag release area show no bluing wear either. The bolt and interior show no wear, I doubt it was fired much if at all. I paid $695.00 for the rifle.

At the Reno gun show I saw a fair number of 88s in conditions from very good to excellent, the prices ranged from about $495.00 to $800.00. These were pre 64 (or at least "pre-pressed checkering/design") rifles, and not carbines.

You may want to check the GunBrokers site, although they tend to post a touch high, I think.
