Just picked up a Yugo SKS in amazing condition, and it has had the grenade launcher removed and the muzzle brake added on. Does anyone know if that means it has been made 922r compliant? IIRC the addition of a muzzle attachment makes it "non-sporting"?

It is a grey area which both ATF and California DOJ ignore.

OK so if I put a pistol grip stock on it I should still swap out other parts for compliance?

Yes, if you pay attention to 922r.

Parts are not required to be marked made in US, so it is impossible to enforce, and it is a law designed to limit importation, not end user modification. It is also not illegal to purchase an uncompliant firearm.

Someone will be along soon to tell you to follow the law, which requires buying US made parts.
