View Full Version : My survivalist "tactical" budget rem700 project (in 30.06)

The idea behind this project is to use the cheapest remington 700 action I could find in a caliber that can handle anything on this continent. On old ADL pawnshop special fit the bill perfectly. I was going to build a .308, but because of its popularity, ammo is hard to come by in a pinch, while 30.06 is everywhere at all times.

While doing the project, I'm attempting to save a majority of my budget for optics because the scopes I'm looking at are over a grand each (the new horus dual plane or the luep LRT). So until the funds are raised for that, I'll be using a konus mildot 24x scope intended for a 1022 build.

The HS stock (brand new) and .308 tactical barrel (used) were both scored on the cheap from fellow calgunners ($40 and $60 respectively) and the sling came with the gun.

What's left on my shopping list is a bipod, nice rings, and a base. Hoping to spend less than $150 these.

The end product should be a relatively light, very accurate and powerful bolt gun that's more compact than most.

Wish me luck, the hunt continues!http://img.tapatalk.com/425745fd-c193-dfa3.jpg

Man, my phone is fighting me on the pics...

The rifle was $350 OTD, the konus scope was $140. I hope to sell the see through rings, the redfield tracker 4x scope on the gun now, the stock barrel and wood stock to recoup some of the cost.

Not bad. It's the one with the built in mag? Or single shot?

Four round internal magazine. I originally wanted to build off of an sps drop mag 30.06, but the prices have jumped significantly in the past few months, my OTD price would've been close to $650 if bought from buds. To be budget friendly, the DM idea had to be dropped.

I was looking at drop mags for a while and the same thing stopped me... Went with a 7.62 AR for now, and will probably go with a Savage or Tikka .308 when the time comes.
