I'm gonna make this short and sweet.

I have a friend who has an FMP G3S .308 in a different state than our loving CA.

If i wanted to purchase this, how can i make this rifle LEGAL to have in CA?

The pics he sent me of the receiver just for reference...

how do i do that???

you can open them in MSPaint.exe, go to Image, Sketch/Skew, do a percentage like 50/50, *bam* it's half the original size. Repeat as necessary, "Save As" as a different imagename to retain your original image.

It doesn't look banned by name so maybe all you need is a bullet button...

maybe this one?: http://www.assaultplanet.com/products/ptr91/

What is it that you think prevents it from being CA legal? Have you referred to the flow chart at all?

From all the broken research and bits and pieces i found, some people say you need to change the trigger group and other say that the flash hider must be removed...

I'm kind of confused and I just dont want to break any laws if i were going to go through this transaction...

The flowchart should answer your question, but to sum it up, you'll need a bullet button and a 10 round magazine. This is assuming you've already checked that it is NOT banned by name. I see no reason to change any firing components unless it is currently in a full auto configuration, which my very limited knowledge of this particular rifle wants to tell me it isn't. Flash hider would only be an issue if the barrel length is too short without it. Meaning, if you were to remove it, the barrel would be less than 16" and thus an SBR. If that were the case (It's not) all you would have to do is have it welded on.

If time is of the essence, just buy the thing torn apart as a "parts kit" and do more research during your 10 day wait :)

Thank you for the clarification!!!

Now all I need to find are 10 round mags for it...

HK sells 10 rounders for $20 each. I have a hunch you could come across some for slightly cheaper in a gunshow bin or on a forum if you are patient. You could also convert the ones that the current owner has to 10 rounders, if he doesn't accidentally lose them at the range you frequent first that is.

it is a bit more complicated than the above says. You need a bullet button, or some way to fix the magazine. you need a 10 round magazine. since the gun is owned by a friend out of state, you need to send him the above, have him install it and do a DROS on the rifle. You are in socal, so find a gun store that is willing to do the transfer, and find out if your friend can ship directly, or if it has to go through another ffl (gun dealer) before they accept it.
Here is how I would proceed.
1. Find a local gun store that will accept the rifle. find out their policies about your friend sending directly, or if you need a gun store in your friends state to send it. expect to pay $50-$100 for the transfer. There are a ton of calguns.net advertisers in your area that im sure would be happy to help.
2. once you get the details above worked out, buy a BB and a 10rnd mag and send them to your friend, have him install them and get the rifle set up for CA laws.
3. realize .308 ammo is not cheap and sell everything you own on craigslist to feed your new addiction. I have pondered selling my wifes car to buy ammo, she might be mad, but I would be armed so my chance of survival is slight

You are confusing the two different ways of making them CA legal. There is featured and featureless. Featured is the easy way. Add a bullet button and 10 round magazine and you are legal. Featureless is more complicated. That involves removing the flash hider and rear grip and making sure to use a fixed length stock and making sure not to add any of the evil features. But you can leave the magazine button and use hi-caps if you owned them before the ban - though hi-caps have their own confusing regulations that are up in the air right now.

Personally, I think the flow charts just confuse people. You need to read, understand, and memorize Senate Bill 23. Once you understand it, this stuff is easy. If you follow the chart, but don't understand the law itself you are asking for trouble. IMHO.

While I recommend doing it the easy way, and go featured with a bullet button and 10 round magazine the bullet buttons for these kinda suck. They get glued on, are ***** to install, and are no where near as practical as those on an AR15. That said, it is better than not having the rifle at all.

if the gun is not banned by name, all you will need is a permanently attached 10 round magazine (in other words a bullet button and a 10 round capacity magazine) as well as an overall length of 30"

removing the muzzle device will be unnecessary if you plan on going this route.

otherwise your other option would be a featureless rifle .
