I got 2 ASC 10rd mags for it, along with the Wolff extra power hammer spring and firing pin, CAA stock saddle, the KNC cross-hair front sight post in an Armalite front sight, and a no-name rear sight from my brother. It's sitting on my 80% which I intend to electroplate in brass. The lower contains a Bill Springfield 3.5lb trigger, DPMS pistol grip, and tapco stock and buffer.

All together I have 847.50 (plus time) into it.

Oh, and after I ordered it (of course) I finally found a review (though brief) on it:

I purchased a 7.62x39 upper from them last month. The price they list includes the shipping. The barrel is a Wilson barrel all components seem to be well made. It feed well with ASC mags. Using Tula ammo it had a 50% FTF rate. I turned the firing pin in a drill press and a small flat file and now have 0 FTF after 200 rounds. The upper is as accurate as my Colt 5.56 at 100 yrds in a lead sled. I just ordered the 300 blk out. BTW Karri's gun has lowers cheap. Same manufacturer that makes them for Spikes. I April they go down to $159.99. I assembled they are $149.99.

Cant wait! Pics when it gets here!

Cool, where did you get it from?

As far as mags http://www.ammosc.com/

Exile machine also sells the 30 round rebuild kits for pretty cheap- and you can get mag blocks for them because let's face it the 10/30 just looks bad *****.

Also, looking at magazines:

http://www.outdoorgearbarn.com/p-27095-mag-asc-ar762x39-10rd-sts-blk.aspx

ASC is the cheapest that comes in 10 rd capacity. Is not curved, so I'd wonder about feeding... Haven't ordered it yet.

I have the ASC' in 5 and 10 round and both function flawlessly. I got mine from Galati Int(also where I got my upper and enhanced firing pin)

My 10/30 C Products I got from the gun show and they too have been Great

I've been using the ASC stainless steel 10 round mags for my AR's without a problem.

What ammo are you guys using? I'll probably have to buy samples of everything to see what it eats best... hopefully it likes steel case without to many mods...

OP, you my friend are awesome!!!!:hurray: thanks for sharing the find, thats something Im going to have to look into!

No problem! Hopefully the upper works well... After looking around I decided to take the plunge on a cheap upper, and hope it performs on par with expensive ones (or at least goes "bang" consistently, and puts holes in paper). I looked around and was unable to find any reviews or anything conclusive, or even someone who has purchased from them in the past...

I've been shooting my own reloads in mine (Hornaday V-Max 123grns over 24.5 grns of 1680) but had ok "plinker" results with Wolf ammo. The point of impact is pretty different and the groups start opening way up, though...

What AR were you shooting the wolf out of? My brother and other people I know have had issues with cycling steel cased ammo.

If/when I start reloading (likely in the future, but for now no money for start up) is it better to buy empty brass and all the materials, or buy some of the hornady and reload those?

I've ran 99% Wolf and TulAmmo without any issues- my upper is I am pretty sure Model 1 Sales- Ran some winchester brass and hornady zombie maxx... All perfect

My x39 upper is a Colt Sporter model:

No problems with cycling Wolf.

I've bought new and once-fired brass for reloading. I'd probably just go with once-fired if I was to start again. Much cheaper, though it can be tough to find.

I found some decent looking brass (prvi) that I've read good stuff about for 31 cents a round. It's corrosive, but so is most of the surplus, and as long as I'm cleaning it like I should be, it has a longer shelf life anyway... I might buy that, and reload it.

I personally am going to stick with TulAmmo and Wolf- non corrosive and I have a range by my house that allows bi-metal ammo. I know flushing the corrosive salts is easy but I am lazy and the steel cased stuff is cheaper anyway. Congrats again man.

I shoot steel out of mine too with no problems......1st break it in and workout any issues you might have....After that she should be good to go.....My 7.62 upper has become one of my favorites to shoot right next to the AK.....LOL!

You're a joy kill! Does "misery loves company" applies to you too?
Hopefully everything will work as it should, if not there are members here who will gladly help him find the solution. I recently bought a "16 upper, I like it so much I ordered a "20.

Haha, fortunately I know that ftf would probably be weak hammer spring, or a relatively simple firing pin mod. as long as it feeds and ejects nicely :)

That's a more helpful input than your first. I experienced the light primer strike with surplus ammo but it went away by getting the Model1 FP.

Get extra power wolff (http://www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm?page=items&cID=2&mID=1&dID=79#491) hammer springs for those tough primers.

sharxbyte
04-15-2012, 7:06 AM
Olav, how many do you recommend? are they a common part to wear out?

Also, does it make sense to get heavier duty extractor springs as well?

_____________

Just in case, I bought the Wolff hammer spring, and the enhanced firing pin. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

If you are shooting Tula or Wolf or any of the new ammo you don't need the xtra power wolff... Maybe for the surplus stuff but the Wolf and Tula are cheaper and non corrosive..

So much good information in this thread.

OP thanks for that. Great find on those uppers also. I am looking into the 7.62 upper.

Where did you find the firing pin?

Also does anyone know if the recoil is a significant difference to the 223? Should the buffer spring be changed as well?
