View Full Version : I Got My Swiss Shooting Medal!

The picture is attached. As you can tell, I'm not much of a photographer... but I tried.

Pay no attention to the date on the medal. It would appear that this medal was awarded before I was even born, but that's not quite the case. They ran out of medals for us top-notch type shooters so they just gave me an old one. I didn't mind, I'm just a nice kinda guy ya know?

Too cool! If it is too old, you can send it to me...I was alive then.

How do you get a Pistol award for shooting a K31?
Cool Troll, Bro! ;)

04-03-2012, 8:56 PM
That pretty cool. I guess this was from shooting a match, the one in Monterrey.

Well... I guess you could call my Chase Visa "Monterey" ;)

I bought it at Simpsons. If I can't win a medal, I'll buy one!

Neener Neener! :p

Somehow I thought it signified your having held up a medal shop at gunpoint to get some rifle medals that you will present to us as having won, one at a time over the course of the summer. :D

I looked up the words.

Landesschiessen means "land shooting" using an online translator.

auszeichnung means "honoring"

Cool medal.

^ Almost every bullet I shoot, hits the Land, eventually. I guess Blitzburg never misses...:D

I went through a spell of collecting Swiss shooting medals. My criteria was that they had to have a firearm from 1900 or later pictured on it. I bought a bunch from Switzerland and then lost interest in the pursuit. I sold some but still have some left. For awhile they were inexpensive and easy to find for sale but they seem to be less so these days.

Those are neat SMLE!

I paid $100 for mine. I thought that was a bit stiff, but most I found were that price or even more.

But at least now I have one to look at. I like it - almost went with one that had a Black & Gold ribbon (Steelers colors), but went for this one instead :)

Very nice medal smle-man; like that the medals have the ribbons.
I have another old swiss medal.....like the artistry on these old medals.

Sorry if I'm tread jacking...just love the look of old medals...

That wasn't bought was it 6mminl?

Those were earned, were they not?

Nice :)

04-06-2012, 7:05 AM
Earned, the only way to acquire them.

But the artistic design's are also testimony to skilled engraving and collectability.

04-06-2012, 8:26 AM
Well I didn't earn mine... other than earning the money then paying for it ;)

I'll shoot a match(s) some day, but right now couldn't get to it. So I wanted one just to have, to look at, to drool over.

It's a beautiful piece, but I agree - I should earn one.

04-06-2012, 11:18 AM
6mmintl, that appears to be a centerfire conversion, or not? If it's a conversion from rim-fire, what sanctioned matches are you allowed to shoot it in?

I shoot Gonzales for grins, and 200 meter silouette.

Got it shooting 1.5 MOA which is competitive if I do my part, qualified on two stages last year but not overall due to tricky winds.

I received my Medal from the 2011 50 meter pistol shoot at the Swiss Rifle Club, Gonzales, Ca. but unfortunately I do not have any information of what I attained/achieved with this award, I believe I was in the top 5 place/shooters.

Found my results today attached, im the first shooter listed, looks like forth place overall and qualified for the Feldschiessen medal

The "SSV" is the Schweitzerische Schutzen Verein" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schweizerischer_Sch%C3%BCtzenverein
and I am waiting on other acronym's to be explained

The medal has the Nidwalden Canton logo so do not understand the canton connection with the award, can anyone explain to me what the various acronyms mean? im lost on this one.

05-11-2012, 4:18 AM
I'll have the rest of the info for you later today, but the SSV is Schweizer Schiesssport Verband
Good shooting!:D

*I just got it from Guisan. All of them say the same thing but in 4 different languages.
