Who's going next weekend?
Grand Sierra, Chevy's bar inside, Sat nite, 1st beer is on me. I'm easy to find, 6'2", black ball cap with a SVT-40 on the front.
If you have a vintage Winchester you want appraised, or need to find parts for, Bert Hartman will be there.

I was actually thinking about it. I was Googling for more information and I ran across this website claiming the whole thing is just an ATF setup waiting to catch people.

http://www.survival-enterprises.com/renogunshow.html

I'm thinking its a little paranoid but I have read previous posts on Calguns about CA DOJ following people back into CA to arrest them for stupid stuff like not disassembling magazines. So now I'm more nervous about it. Its hard enough to be legal in CA without someone intentionally trying to trap you.

Do you believe everything you read on the internet? So so pathetic....

I did some more searching. Apparently my concern isn't new and has been discussed before in much more detail and background.

I have been going once or twice a year for several years and never had a problem. The people that have problems are the people that break the law.

I suppose that's true. Don't go looking for trouble and it hopefully it won't find you. I'm tempted to try out my new C&R license while I'm there so I'm just trying to be careful.

I'm going - but just Friday PM and Saturday morning. If the stars align (or if Classic Arms ahem ships my stuff) I'll be transferring some C&Rs at the show. If not, I'll just be on the prowl for the usual (S&Ws...).

PS. If you buy magazines that are illegal in CA and bring them across the border without making them legal by disassembly then you deserve to get nicked.

All the years I've been going I've heard that the ATF and CADOJ stalks the show and the state borders. Don't recall ever seeing anyone getting busted. Don't recall anyone ever doing any questionable transactions.

Jeez - you're going to a gun show in a great state. People walk around the casino with their guns. Cheap beer, buffet. Scheels! How that can be turned into a downer experience is beyond me. Don't speed, wear your seatbelt. Disassemble the mags. Relax, enjoy. Hit the strip club .....

I went last year, lots of C&R Rifles, prices were all over the map, but generally on the high side. If you want a SAA, US Property 1911 or Luger, there were a lot to choose from. I saw 1 other C&R Pistol there, a Tokarov, but don't remember the price.

If you want a C&R Pistol, you are much better off ordering it and having it shipped to Steve at Timber Outdoors, and picking it up at the show.

If you have a C&R FFL, and the seller is aware of the law and willing to sell to you. C&R long guns you can just bring home, C&R Pistols must be registered, by sending in a form and $19.

AW and magazine laws still apply.

If you haven't been before, I would recommend coming out to the show. Lots of western/cowboy shooting stuff but the mix of milsurp and modern firearms has improved a lot. As an attendee in the past, I have found good deals on accessories and ammo.

We are actually going to have our own table at the show for the first time this weekend. Please stop by and say hi. Our table will have a dark red table cloth and we will have an assortment of things for sale (long guns, hand guns, AR receivers, mags, etc.). No C&R stuff at this time.

If you want to hedge your bets on finding a good C&R handgun deal at the show, you can buy one online in advance and have it shipped to us and we can transfer it to you at the show. If you are considering this option, I would recommend ordering immediately (Monday) to ensure that the gun comes in on time.

I've been to three or four. In laws live there so I just time our visits surprisingly well. Wife thinks there is ALWAYS a gun show on in reno. As to whether it's worth the drive, well to me it is at least once, purely to walk around check it out and see everything....PLUS the feeling of freedom one gets from buying a gun (I have CnR) and walking around the place afterwards in the casino and bar with it over my shoulder and no-one batting an eyelid. When the barista at starbucks says "nice rifle" you know you're in a free state.

As has been mentioned, if you want a C&R pistol, you are much better off price and availability wise ordering it and having it shipped to Steve, AKA Rigmarole.

Cabellas had Nagant revolvers a couple months ago, and they had P1s last year, not sure if they still do. They are CA C&R friendly.

I have been to the show twice, aside from Cowboy guns, Nazi pistols and USGI 1911s, C&R Pistols are few and far between. There were quite a few C&R Bolt guns, but I don't remember seeing much in the way of SKS.

Unfortunately, you are going to see tables by SOG or JG Sales.

As a Californian, it is worth the trip at least once, if only to see people walking through the casino with rifles slung over their shoulders, and nobody giving them a second look.

emcon, no more firearms in the actual casino/gambling area, they've had it posted the last couple of shows. That said, the best deals are in the hallway from the hotel desk to the show ticket counter.

It really does happen (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=408028). The busts aren't made at the show, they happen on I-80 a few miles from my house. That was last year, the linked-to jail media reports have since moved, but they were there back then.

Don't buy things that are illegal in CA, and you have no worries.

The line wasn't too bad, of course we got there at 0845 so we were only about 60 people back and it moved well. Poor guys just in front of use got to the door and found out they need a ticket, unhappy campers, so back to the ticket window and back of the line! They were used to buying the tickets up closer to the doors were the booth had been for years, but I've seen it everytime I've gone to the show there.
Lots of C&R's and Antiques, S.O.S.D.D., high prices. Quite a few Garands $900-$1650 and M1 Carbines $800-$1700. Guys trying to unload there CMP Garands and Carbines wandeing around. Cheapest used 10/22 was $225, 10/22 with Mannlicher Stock $875. The crowd was still quite light at 1100 when we left plenty of elbow room in the isles. I met my daughter there, she's gotten interested in firearms, and my collection, but never had experienced a GUN SHOW. She's a 3rd yr med school student and a NV resident (I had my hopes up). Her observations were, "the people watching was better that Disneyland, "guys swilling beer at 0900 was interesting" AND she was surprised at how polite people were to each other. Not uncommon at the Reno shows I've been to, except when the CMP showed up with a bunch of Garands. Things got kind of rude and Orest had to back some people off the tables to let others have chance. But then I don't think we'll have to worry about that happening again in Reno. ;) I was hoping to find a Rock Island Armory Tactical in 9mm my kid could "gift to me" but didn't see a single one of any RIA models. Saw a US&S 1911A1 $3700. Found out that USGI A1 Upper I have is worth $775:eek: I paid $185 delivered for mine a couple years ago. There was quite alot of activity at the ammo sellers. A great first experience for my kid, I imagine the crowd Sat will be much larger.

No, No CMP table at Reno. I was refering to years past when they DID have a table and it was a free for all. Guys cherry picking through the rifles, stalling so other people couldn't get up to the table. Reserving their max amount of rifles then picking through more so they would "reserve" another bunch of rifles for a "buddy" who'd send the paperwork in later BS. You know a lot of those went to dealers. Orest seemed to catch on to it so he started to encourage people to let others in.
Last time I was there it seemed the entire entry line headed right for the CMP tables, it was 3-4 deep with guys trying to elbow in and guys in wheel chairs trying forge ahead.

Sorry if I led you to think CMP was there, I doubt it will happen again anyway.:(

Best deal of the day I saw was a fully transferable Colt M16 with MG upper for $17k. Other than that, I got most of the ammo i wanted. Didn't find any good deals on Yugo 7.62x39 so i ended up buying a couple cases of 5.45.

Did you see the 2 Johnson Rifles? In separate rooms, one USGI the other "7mm Made for Chilie" it was only $1000. Wish I kept mine 18 years ago! There also 2 of the 11mm WW1 Mauser antitank rifles. First ones I've seen in person.

I did see a 10/22 for $179..... in the smaller room. also, the usual refinished s&w's with jeweled triggers for $900. a lot of interesting smiths and colts; even a couple of Makarovs though both priced close to $400.

I also saw three s&w m29's with "coke" bottle grips. including one 4-screw in excellent condition.....wasn't for sale when I went by a third time :) (whistling.......)

the show was much better than I expected given the proximity to Easter.

Just got home...a day Early!
Woke up at 3am with a high fever, chills, and soaking wet. That went on all night waking up every hour and a half. Couldn't get sick at home, nooo........wait until your 3.5hrs away!
After using up my whole floor's allotment of hot water, I finally crawled out and got some coffee, just enough for a pass through the show, and grab the things I "NEEDED".
On the way back through, grabbed a few I wanted. Place was a close repeat of the ammo gorging Obama started back in 2008.
I gotta go lay down before my head floats away. I really hate being sick!

Sorry to hear about the BUG getting you, there are some nasty ones out there this year. Being sick away from home is a real PIA. I figured Sat would be the busy day as Friday seemed light, Sundays can be light also cuz everybody was there Sat and out of towners are heading home. I don't go on Sats any longer, I go on Fridays and occasionally a Sunday. Hope you're feeling better. There will be a local gun show at the Gardnerville Fair grounds next weekend, just saw the ad in the local paper.
