On a 10 day wait for my Savage 93R17 TR. Considering optics for combination 100 yard target shooting and small varmint hunting. Just curious what scopes do my fellow Calgunners have on their .17 HMR rifles.

Vortex Crossfire 8-32x50MM AO. Easily see the bullet holes at 100yds. Its a large scope, bright and clear. Gets a hair dark beyond 28X but 1/3 the price of one that doesn't. Purchased from Camerland for $169, now they are $129 if they still have any. Vortex has the best warranty in the scope business, same as Leupold. No receipt required, if its broke they fix or replace. Doesn't matter if you are the original owner or not.

Look at a Mueller AVP. They are cheap and clear for a rimfire. Joebob Outfitters or Gunkings.com for fast free shipping at a good price (130 buck???)

I have a BSA Sweet 17 on my Marlin and it shoots dime size groups at 100 yards. I've heard quality can be iffy, I must have gotten a good one.

Leupold 3-9. No need for higher magnification as I use mine for hunting only, no paper punching.

My buddy has a sweet .17 on his Savage 93r17, I've shot it a bit and it's pretty nice.

I put a Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 on my CZ 453 .17, it seems a bit brighter and clearer to me. No problems with seeing the target, and the rifle is more than capable of doing it's part.

I use a Leupold 2-7 Rimfire scope as the paralax is set closer (I think 50 yards) for rimfire vs centerfire on most scopes.

Mueller Eraticator on one, the Hubble Jr.(very nice discontinued Japanese made Simmons) on the other.

After evaporating your X-ring, amuse yourself by shooting the staples out of your buddy's target.

I have the same on my Marlin and get the same dime size groups as long as there isn't any wind.
