View Full Version : Where to get a revolver barrel shortened?

I have a 6" barrel Taurus revolver model 669 in 357 Mag. I like to have the barrel shortened to 3". I'm in Los Angeles. WHat is a good place I can have this done and how much is it going to cost me?

The front sight is not removable so a new front sight will need to be installed.

Is this something I can do at home? Like cutting it off with a hack saw and reream the crown (or may be even skip it?) and drill and tap to install a simple front sight?

Thanks for any comments.

Sounds like more work then its worth. And wouldn't perform all well. Sell it and buy a real 3"

You'll also have to re coat the gun or it will be a lot more prone to rusting maybe even flaking near the cut

Try Bain & Davis in San Gabriel..... They do great work, but dont be in a hurry to get it back

Unless you do it yourself....which would also probably drop the value.....it would be more cost effective to just buy another one with the configuration you want.

I would be better to buy another gun with the barrel you want.

Is changing out barrel an option?

Taurus can probably do it for you (changing the barrel to 3 inch). Or you can spend just a little more for a new one with a 3 inch barrel. Last resort, use a hack saw :0
