Yesterday, we witnessed America's worst mass shooting on the campus of Virginia Tech. Thirty-three students and faculty were killed, including the gunman. At least fifteen more were wounded.

How many deaths and injuries must we endure before our nation's elected officials act to end gun violence? We must ask our leaders: "What are you going to do about it?" What are you going to do to make our schools, workplaces, and communities safe from gun violence?

President George W. Bush said yesterday that schools should be a place of "safety and sanctuary for every student," but he and other national leaders do nothing to ensure that safety. They provide condolences, and then do nothing to stop future tragedies.

Eight years ago this week, we watched in horror as students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado fled a mass shooting. Twelve students and one teacher were killed. Just seven months ago, five girls were gunned down in a school in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

These arenít isolated incidents. February 12, 2007, Salt Lake City: A teen opens fire in a mall killing five and wounding four. On the same day in Philadelphia: Three men fatally shot and a fourth wounded at a board meeting. January 11, 2007, Indianapolis: A man shoots four fellow employees. The list goes on and on.

There are common threads in all of these tragedies ó it is much too easy for the wrong people to get high-powered, deadly weapons and our leaders fail to do anything about the problem.

It is urgent that you email or call your elected officials today.
They must hear that you want action to keep guns out of the wrong hands.

Please make as many of these phone calls as you can:

President George W. Bush 202-456-1414
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi 202-225-0100
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid 202-224-5556

The message for all three calls is simple:

It is much too easy for the wrong people to get deadly weapons in this country. It is time for you to take steps to end gun violence to prevent tragedies like the one at Virginia Tech.
If you can't make the calls, you can click here to send an email, which will go to the President, the Speaker, the Majority Leader, as well as your U.S. Senators and Representative. One click will email all six of them.

The Brady Campaign is working nonstop to get the message out that there are solutions to gun violence. We can ban military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips that make it so easy to kill quickly . . . we can require Brady background checks for all gun sales, including at gun shows . . . we can stop large-volume gun sales that supply illegal gun traffickers. These are just some of the steps we can take to make it harder for the wrong people to get guns.

We are building a crescendo of public outcry to ensure that action is taken. We are aggressively rallying support among allies for our solutions. And we need your continued support to make it happen. Please make a contribution now to keep the momentum going. When you do, a generous donor will match your gift.

Gun violence is a solvable problem. We know it wonít be easy. But we can make it harder for the wrong people to get their hands on guns through strong gun laws.

It is time for our nationís leaders have courage to say "no" to the gun lobby's mantra of any gun, anywhere, at anytime for anyone, while wrapping it in distortions about "freedom" and "liberty."

Americans have the right to live free from the constant fear of gun violence. Please take a moment to forward this email to friends and families.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Your Friends at StoptheNRA.com

Looks like the attack has started. It sickens me that this group used the death of so many people to further their distorted views.

Disgusting opportunists - the whole lot of 'em.

You've ever seen the way they parade Reagan's former press secretary around? Disgraceful.

We should make the calls....and remind them that the Salt Lake City mall incident has fewer casualties because it was stopped by someone with a CCW. In recognition of that, we should pass a law permitting teachers to CCW on school campuses.

Already done.

As we have seen by yesterdays tragic event at Virginia Tech GUN CONTROL LAWS DO NOT PROTECT LAW ABIDING CITIZENS FROM VIOLENCE. They restrict the rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves against irresponsible, antisocial, murderers.

Murderers do not obey laws; Law-abiding citizens obey laws.

Had Virginia Tech not supported the defeat of House Bill 1572 students would have had the ability to exercise there constitutional rights and legally carry there concealed firearm on campus allowing them to defend themselves and others resulting in a tragedy on a much smaller scale. Instead students had to barricade themselves inside classrooms waiting for help to come or jump out of windows to escape the carnage.

The police came after the carnage was over and 32 victims lay dead and many other wounded. The police can not protect individuals and it is not their job. Support the rights of people to defend themselves and oppose gun control. The safety of our nation and our freedom of our people depend on upholding our constitutional right to keep and bear arms. As our elected representative I urge you to support our freedom and oppose gun control.

I just used the Brady Campaign to send my emails using the paragraph written above... Hope if worked right...

I did the same thing, then thought about what that did. Do you think people actually read the letters or just notice how many of them are from the brady campaign..?

either way using the brady campaign to send letters is a bad idea, you don't want to increase the size of anti-gun organizations letter-mass that ends up in a politicians boxes.

That's an interesting point, pewpewguns...
But that form is a pretty darn convenient way to mail a whole bunch of elected officials in one fell swoop. Perhaps we need a web form of our own to do the same thing except with a pre-written pro-gun message instead.

I wonder if they misspelled traffikers (should be traffickers) deliberately?

I've tried to keep zest of the message the same

I am outraged by this week's tragedy at Virginia Tech. It is much too easy for the people with deadly weapons pray on innocent defenseless victims.

It is time for you to take steps to end ridiculous limitations on right of law abiding citizens to protect themselves from common criminals and terrorists.

I support immediate change of gun laws to allow citizens of this country with CCW to carry his/her guns in other states, like they allowed to drive their cars in any other state. I support immediate repeal of 1934 NFA and 1968 GCA. So should you.

What are you going to do to help United State citizens to protect themselves?

Hope this is good enough.

Almost sent it through brady, but then, I did the right thing and used the rally congress link. Thanks guys for posting that. Here is my little addition, hope its good enough.

I am deeply saddened by the Virginia Tech massacre. Nothing can be said to right such a tragedy.

Too long have a few people tried to convince politicians of the need to disarm Americans And sadly a disarmed population of students were the victims of that kind of thinking. Mostly people will continue on, without any kind of revelation, that disarmed, they are preyed upon.

It is time to reconsider that thought. That disarmed we Americans are some how safer against murderers, thieves, rapists, etc. It is time to recognize that Americans, that all humans, should not be disarmed against those that would attempt to harm them. That we as people need to recognize, and accept those Natural rights, deemed by our founders to be essential to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The most important being the ability to defend ones life.

Please do not think that we could disarm America even if we wanted too. Or worst hold to a believe that by some miracle it would have a positive effect on violent crime, with only criminals having access to firearms. Virginia Tech speaks volumes of what happens when a mad man has free reign over an un-armed populace.

It is time to think logically. A fox in a hen house wins unless the chickens are armed. Is that what we as Americans want. Thugs ruling the streets, the homes, the schools, the malls? No where can we be safe?

Don't support more gun control as knee jerk reaction to this tragedy.

Stopping random acts of violence is not what these people are about. Its the guns they are after. They want a disarmed populace. If we let them they will start with the 2nd then the 1st ect.

Deep down these people probably get excited when something like this Virginia Tech thing happens. "More negative gun news, ohhhhhh goody." These people are sick, socialist that want nothing more than an unarmed population that cannot defend itself.

I keep seeing people post this or similar comments. Both sides will use something like this for their political agendas, just the nature of the hideous beast that is politics.

Edited, not necessary.

Funny because all the proposed law changes in the letter would not have prevented the shootings. I don't mean he would have gotten around them or something, I mean they could have passed all those laws and he would still have his gun without breaking any of them.

What is a "Brady Background Check." Do they call Sara Brady and ask her if I can have a gun?

This same e mail came to me at my Safe-mail address and look at the place where it came from. Safe-mail looks at the E-Mail headers and not only shows where they are telling you it came from but also shows you where it really came from.

Read below.

They use this address so they wont get spam i would bet.
