View Full Version : CMMG M4 LEP II - losse free float rail

I purchased a CMMG M4-LEP II a while back. Everything worked fine, but later upgraded the plastic handguards to the CMMG free float (choices somewhat limited due to the piston system). Choose to stay with a CMMG part in hopes of a superior fitting product. This free float installs with a locking nut and a single anti-rotation screw. The problem is that after a day's worth of shooting (defense carbine classes), the handguard starts to loosen up. I've tried to really crank down on both the locking nut and anti-rotation screw, but it still doesn't want to stay tight. This seems like a huge problem if it can't stay tight for more than a day.

Contacted CMMG and they state that I should be able to tighten them enough to stay tight. I'm about to try locktite, and if that didn't work maybe dimple the barrel nut so the anti-rotation has a place to sit, but wanted to check if anyone has experienced this.

Otherwise, any suggestions?

Blue Locktite.
