So I want to get another ar I have a dd, really like it,but its time for another
I went to a few local gun shops and saw that I can get the ar made the way I want for a lot less than a one by dd or lmt. Any draw backs, pros cons?
Thanks.

make sure you can get the takedown pins to fit snuggly.

Building your own will allow you more options and you will be able to get exactly what you want. Plus, if you put it together yourself, it will become a fun project. At the very least you can buy a complete upper and put your lower together.

A lot of people will say a drawback is that the upper and lower may not go together well, but that's crap. Look around this forum and you will see a lot of people building their own and putting different uppers and lowers together with no problem. I have a Spikes lower and BCM upper and they go together perfectly. Could there be mis-match with two different companies pieces, sure. Likely, probably not.

Why have the shop build it?
Buy and DROS a stripped lower
Get a lower parts kit, stock and buffer kit and a bullet button
Throw it all together
Slap an upper onto it

I have been thinking about your suggestion chaos47,icenix,I ran across a stripped spikes lower the other day, lowers are lowers but i just like the dam spider. The upper I can buy complete locally.

The tools are cheap to put one together. JD Sells a stripped lower for $90 at times.

You can even have a complete upper shipped to your house. The part that is registered is the lower.

Best deal on LPK IMO

or complete lower kit

If you don't want the Magpul parts they have M4/A2 kits too

Roll your own, bit by bit exactly the way you want.

I agree, buy the stripped lower from your LGS and dros it. Order the lower parts kit, stock and tube, and upper from anywhere, locally, online etc. and get exactly what you want. Building the stripped lower is ez and you have unlimited options on the rest. Just get a good lower parts kit. It's your rifle built your way, and it's fun.

I have been working on my first one since november its pretty easy and I can get all the parts i want and i can pay for them at my own pace instead of dropping 1200 at once
