View Full Version : Help Me choose an AR Upper

Hey guys I want to build my first AR.

I want an AR upper that can eat Wolf/steel cased ammo.

I know I might need a Chrome lined chamber/bore and barrel.

Will I need a Chromed BCG?

Will I need a Chromed BCG?

Only if you want one. I run a NiB bcg and before that I had a standard Milspec one and both worked flawlessly with steel cased ammo.

If you can afford the extra cash for a hard-chromed or a nickel-boron BCG, I'd do it. They are a LOT easier to clean than the standard phosphated BCGs, and they have an inherent "slickness" to them that helps with operation. That's an important characteristic if you're primarily going to be shooting steel-cased ammo, which is usually very dirty.

Remember, Eugene Stoner's original spec for the AR10/AR15 called for a hard-chromed BCG. ;)

I second the spikes upper or a stag.
