View Full Version : Bore sighting a M1A Rifle
Hi I am going to mount a scope on my M1A. It is going to be a U,S Optics Scope. Their web site says to use a Magnetic bore sight. Do I have to remove the muzzle break to do this? Or can I leave it on, Thanks I am new to this scope mounting. Thanks Wedge

As far as I know the muzzle brake can stay. Since its magnetic type.
Curious, does your mount allow use of iron sights or not.
Because if it does you can rest rifle on some thing steady and try to line up scope to what the iron sight sees.

use your irons to make sure you are at least hitting paper. boresighter not needed. put the scope on and adjust accordingly. unscrew your turrets so that they align properly. make sure you allow distance for zero for the distance between the center of your bore and the center of your scope tube. depending on the rings it will probly be where the rings split right down the middle. youll need a caliper of some sort for that measurement. make sure the distance is the same as yer zero.

What mount are you using? I scope mine with a cheap laser bore sighter and it's good. Don't remove the brake.
You can use the iron sights instead, like what MicronuT said. You do have to find some way to keep your rifle still.
