I have my grandpa's rifle that I would like to get transferred in my name, but he passed away in 2006. Is it possible to get it in my name?

If he lived in California, you don't have to do anything, provided you take possession of the rifle before Jan. 1, 2014 when long gun registration takes effect.

Currently, long guns aren't registered in anybodies name and intrastate lineal transfer does not require an FFL or any other paperwork.

If he lived outside of California, the transfer needs to go through an FFL.
