I'm typically not a "joiner" of things such as this forum, but after having my daughter I became aware of how ineffectively I would be able to protect my family without a weapon or knowledge to use it. I have lurked for a while reading and educating myself because frankly the idea of having a gun in the house freaked me out a bit. Still does but not as much. Although the thread with the guy who shot himself in the leg didn't make me more at ease. But I finally decided to take the plunge and bought a Marlin 795 two months back then attended an Appleseed to learn to shoot it. I couldn't pass up the easy $100 entry which made it MUCH easier for me to get the wife acclimated to the idea (and myself to be honest). Now all I have to say is, damn its fun! I have budgeted for the shotgun, handgun, and Lord willing, an AR (and a safe to put it in). Actually have several non firearm co-workers interested in going to the range with me.

Welcome. I would highly recommend when having a child in the home, the first thing you invest in, before another firearm, is a safe to store it in. In the worst case scenario, you may go anti-gun real quick.

Welcome in. Like someone else said, invest in a safe. Then, kiss your disposable income goodbye and say hello to an addictive hobby as you begin enjoying the sport of shooting. What area are you in?

Thanks for the warm welcome from everyone. I actually am planning on buying a safe next. Like I said, I'm still a bit nervous about the whole thing and the thought of my daughter getting a hold of my rifle even if it has the trigger lock on it now, makes me even more nervous. I am in the process of figuring out what kind and how big of a safe to get. I plan on looking at what is offered at the OC gun show this weekend. Last show I went to, they all said they were giving special deal for gun show attendees . Course I have no idea if thats really just a mark down of 10% after a 30% mark up.

welcome! if you need a range buddy to help you learn just ask us. there are plenty of us who are more than willing to help. we also have special meet n greets as well as group shoots. these events are great to meet fellow CGN'ers and ask for help, be shown different shooting techniques, etc.

if you can make it, join us at our zombie shoot. it is a large family friendly shooting event.
