So AR afficionado's,
I'm in the market for a 20" AR complete upper, willing to spend about 400-800 bucks. Not sure about the different brands. I'm running an Aero Precision lower. Do you have any recommendations?

A 20" upper is on my want list, too. Here are some of the suggestions I got when I started looking.

I have a bcm upper 20" that suits my needs. Note that they do not come with bcg pr charging handle.

On the budget end I got a DelTon 20" chrome/moly (as opposed to chrome lined) flat top w/T marks for under $400 ($411 shipped). I got some MagPul MOE handguards for $38 (incl tax) so for under $450 I got a complete 20" upper.

It shoots very well - I put a mix of 350 rounds of PMC bronze and Federal NATO ball through it without the slightest hint of trouble. Shots go where called.

For the $$$, I'm very pleased with it.

To me this^^ seems to be the best option. I like to run and gun I have no intentions of having an AR as 100% bench gun. You could also build a custom one from a Colt/FN barrel.

I'm thinking chrome barrel, M16A4 clone with a flat top. Looks like PSA has one that will fit the bill. Want an infantry-type barrel, not a heavy one. Any other brands that might do as well?

You've already found the best deal out there. You want the A4 clone, get the PSA 20" upper with the hammer forged barrel. It's an FN barrel, so you're getting the real-deal A4 stuff.

I am running a Del-ton 20" upper and like it a lot. It will feed any brand ammo I put through it including Remmington and Tula.

This 100000000000000000. (http://www.whiteoakarmament.com/xcart/product.php?productid=17551&cat=259&page=1)

There is no more accurate service rifle upper on the market for the price PERIOD. You will have to wait for one though. It is far far from a bench gun upper. Slight heavy barrel profile.

Dang, that's really nice. Lots to think about in this thread.

Check out Palmetto State Armory. Comes with hammer forged chrome lined FN barrel. I bought one a few months ago and it is now my favorite rifle.

Stag, CMMG, DPMS, if you just want a 20" upper most any brand will work.

PSA is what I would get.

20" plain jane uppers don't do it for me anymore though.

I just got my PSA 20" CHF upper with FN barrel...

I haven't fired it yet, but I'll more than likely buy PSA again if all runs well. I have visions of a Mid-length upper build in my future, to complement the A4 20" clone w/carry handle, and the 16" SS Bull Barrel Carbine w/ Ace Stock I have...

I think if I didn't buy the PSA upper, I would have only gone BCM, based on what I wanted.

I'm torn between a 20" M16A4 Rifle build or a midlength 16" M4 build. Likely going to use PSA because I have a 16" carbine frome them and it runs great. I highly recommend PSA because of their quality and value. I've only shot carbine length gas and piston rifles and I'm looking forward to try something different.

OP, ask yourself this question.

Is this gonna be a 20" benchgun? if so, get a SS barrel. If not, go with something that has an FN, BCM or Colt barrel.

Those look great for the price. 1:7, CL, and a 5.56 chamber, all those are good things if you just want a fun range toy that's easy to clean and will shoot everything.

$525 all in is very good.

Dayum, deyz some good prices!

Think I'll get a 20" HBar chrome lined 1/7". Been looking for awhile for that.

They hit all my high spots - 1/7" twist, 4150 steel, chrome lined, MPI bolt.

Reports are that their front sight/gas blocks use taper pins, and the gas key is properly staked.

I'm sure frankm will enjoy his USGI profile as well.

May get some spare HBar barrels and have them cut to 18" and turned into SPR profile and re-parked.

Seems PSA is the latest hot ticket in price/performance.

Be prepared to wait a couple weeks...

I ordered on March 1, it was here on March 15.

After looking at dozens of photos on the interwebz pertaining to "properly staked BCG's" it appears that they did an excellent job of staking mine.

I love my rifle. All I want for it now is a decent sling.

I just received mine yesterday. Have yet to shoot it, but it looks awesome. I got the PSA with CHF barrel and I added the carry handle. One thing that impressed me the most, was the packaging. IT came in a heavy foam lined cardboard box which was inside the exterior shipping box and had a tapco empty chamber indicator stuck in it.

I'm surprised FN is not mentioned.

You can find them on the 'net every now and then. Also, Colt is a great choice.

I saw a brand new Colt M16 20" upper with removable handle a couple of weeks ago at US Firearms in Sunnyvale. The guy said these are very hard to get. I would have bought it, except I just bought an AR in .308.

Easy. PSA Hammer Forged 20 inch upper. The only problem is catching them in stock :(!

On a side note I run a PSA M-4 upper on my rifle that has a Midwest Industries T9 rail and low profile. Not even the hammer forged and it's accurate as heck for what I paid. My next build will be PSA hands down and I may even use their lower to do it this time.
