HI. I am a first time gun owner and i was wondering if i had to register my rifle? i always see the cops on tv checking serial numbers on guns to check if they are stolen. thats all the questions i have for now. thanks!

Welcome. While it is true that long gun registration is not require (yet), I will assume that you legally acquired said rifle. If you bought it from a dealer they did a DROS meaning that DOJ "should" have both cleared you as well as the rifle. I have never done a PPT but my understanding is that you still need to have DROS completed.
When the LEO's run a trace, they are really just looking to see if the gun has been reported stolen, after all if your's was, the only way to positively ID it would be the S/N.

Thanks . i have purchased my rifle legally. My 10 day waiting period is over today and i will be picking up my rifle shortly.

welcome aboard, if you did a DROS for your new rifle it is now registered.

Welcome to the forum. No need to register rifle yet. Law hasn't isn't in effect yet.
