Hi. I'm trying to decide on a tactical light. I do not want to mount it on a pistol or rifle although the option to would be nice. I've read about surefire and some other brands. I'd like a bright light to ID and blind someone holding it in my left hand leaving my right hand free to use as I need to. I've seen some with serrated edge which seems like a good option to have if the light is used for close quarters defense. Anybody have some advice. Much appreciated.

I have a couple of Fenix brand lights. Try looking into their products.

I have a Streamlight Polytac HP that I keep next to my HD gun. Its very bright and has a lot of "throw" or distance to it. It runs on 2 cr123 batteries that have a very long shelf life. Very well made and has a good warranty through Streamlight.
Just my opinion but I would avoid any light with lots of modes to click through for a tactical type light. For this use I like full-on bright or off only. Good luck.
