I've had the idea in mind to get a featureless 5.56x45/.223 rifle to compliment my BB'd M4gery for a while, so I can use mags that are otherwise useless at this point. At first, I was just considering a basic AR style lower with either a MMG+A2 stock, or a hammerhead grip mounted with an ace skeleton stock, as the grip wraps and pinned telescoping stocks don't look right or feel right to me. Then I saw this: MSA Saiga 223 AR mag adapter (http://magnoliastatearmory.com/products-page/page-header-list/ar2ku223-aksaiga/). Aside from the non-reversible minor modifications to the receiver to fit the part, it doesn't eliminate the ability to accept regular AK-style mags. Since I already like the S308 so much even with the trigger that's so hated, an S223 with that AR mag adapter could be a much cheaper featureless option than building a whole 'nother AR clone.

That said... what other featureless/easily-made-featureless platforms that can accept/adapt to using STANAG mags?

1. AR15 featureless clone: all said and done, guessing around $1000-1200 assembled with good quality parts

2. Saiga 223: $400~ for the rifle, $80-100~ for the MSA adapter + magwell "gunsmithing" (guessing more like dremel/file work ;)), and maybe another $200-300 to appease the demons 922 compliance and ego. Black plastic furniture on a saiga is ok by me, but for some reason I've been wanting a decent wood furniture setup.

3. SCAR 16: Too expensive, no easy featureless methods that I like... unless someone manufacturers a complete lower+featureless stock that eliminates the need for the folding stock. Did I say too expensive? :(

4. FN2000: Can it even be made featureless?

5. Other platforms?

Good luck getting anything from MSA. Dude goes MIA for months at a time.

You can make an FS2000 featureless by filling in the hold with kydex or something else. Benelli MR1 is another option. Galil with adapter as well. I'd go with the AR and have a few featureless myself. I couldn't be happier with them and it's the only way to take advantage of an ARs capabilities with a post ban rifle in CA.

There's always the kel-tec su-16. Haven't used one, but I thought I'd mention it
