A friend gave me his grandfathers Ithica 600 O/U which has a bulge in the under barrel about 2 inches in from the muzzle, just before the front support. First question, can I get another barrel for this shotgun? Second, what causes this type of bulge in a shotgun barrel. His grandfather used it for trap shooting and from the looks of it, never de-leaded it or cleaned it.
The bulge is probably from firing it with an obstruction in the barrel and could be from a build up of lead, plastic or powder fouling. They just re-started the Ithaca firearms company but all they sell is the 37 pumps right now.
You'll probably have to search the used gun parts sites like Numrich, etc. to find barrels. The model 600 barrels are probably the hardest ones to find.

Someone may have fired steel shot in it. It is probably a full choke and steel shot can cause a bulge like that in older guns.
