So happy with my conversion, i wanted to share it w/ you guys. Got the complete conversion kit and bullet guide from Carolinashooterssupply.com. Also did conversion for the ak mag (file down mag catch). Took her out today and boy is that thing sweet. Low recoil, accurate, trigger smoother than my ars. The conversion was so easy, took my 45 mins. to an hour (3rd conversion). This thing also accepted two of my four ak -74 mag w/ no issues.

Nice. I'm thinking of doing a 7.62. My gun shop has them for like $429 right now.

Get it, you won't regret it. I did the conversion on my 7.62 too. Alot of fun.....

So that's all you need is the full conversion kit and the bullet guide and the bit of dremelling and it will take ak mags?

Zeddy, I will be hitting you up for some tips in a few months, I want to do the same thing. You make it sound easy but I doubt if I am as mechanically adept as you sound like you are.

Your Saiga looks sweet. Since none of the ranges I shoot at will let me shoot magnetic ammo, a .223 Saiga seems perfect, I have about 10k rounds of PMC and XM193BK for my ARs so why add another caliber to the mix?

Range report please when you take it out.

Congrats!

On the 7.62 you just need a little dremeling, from what I've read. For the .223 you need the guide to run Galil mags and a couple others. Didn't know it would work for AK-74 5.45X39 mags and that it would hold .223.

Nice Rifle:thumbsup:

All it was was the conversion kit, grip/stock, fcg, hammer, trigger guard, axis pin retainer, 3/16 plugs, and bullet guide. If I don't put in a bullet guide, u can't use AK mags. AK mags sit low in the reciever verses saiga mags sit high. My 223 won't accept saige mags but 7.62 still does. I'm real happy w/ the 223. Shot 50 and 100 yard steel targets. Got a lot of "nice shootin" from around me. One guy thought I was like a sniper or something for the marines.... Anyway, very simple to do and really fun. Feel like buying another saiga just to do the conversion.

I have a galil mag but was way too loose. Wobbled too much from side to side. Wouldn't pick up every other round

So your getting .223 to feed from ak74 magazines???

03-17-2012, 7:57 AM
Yeah what about the mag issue? What are you going to use as mags? I've heard the same about the Galil mags that they sometimes have really bad wobble in the saiga .223. There are a few companies that make Saiga .223 mags ca compliant. I think Solar Tactic has a few. The mag problem was the reason I decided to go the 7.62 route.

Yes, two out of my four 74 mags, only two worked (no mods done to the mag or follower). the other two, the bolt wouldn't pick up the rounds.

promag, ak-74, 5.56 steel mag worked. galil, two ak74 and (to my suprise) bulgy 5.56 mag did not work.

Im sure you guys know, the saiga .223 has kit that will accept ar mags too....

Rumor has it SJgunguy got one, in something like under 2 weeks if I remember right. This is not the B.A.S.T.A.R.D., but the older one.

There is another adapter out there. User RenegadeBuck makes some, I think he's working on a CA legal mag lock. Have heard that some people made there own.

Best gun for the money hands down at first I thought what is the big deal? Now I own 3 and want a .308 that I going to turn into a long range snipe type rifle. With a trigger job and good hand loads it should get interesting. It should shoot 1.5-2 MOA

Is the kit 922r compliant?

zeddy

Entire kit no. Need handguards and domestic mag. Here is a good site that has a check off list.

If you are using factory Saiga mags or mags like SGM Tactical that are specifically made for Saigas, there is no need for any bullet guide.

My converted .308 already does that with box ammo.
