What is the best economical way to scope a regular 91/30? I'm thinking about removing the rear sight and mounting a weaver rail. Is there a good package deal out there?

Rock solid, hold zero, and you don't modify your gun in any non-reversible way. Neither I nor anyone else will declare a fatwa on you for using one of these.

Although a good mount , this isn't entirely true. You will probably have to do some miner inletting on the stock to get it to go back together, and you will need to get or make a bent bolt to allow it to cycle with a rifle scope. They also sit a little too high, making it hard to get a solid, consistant cheek weld.

Now you can keep your bolt and still use stripper clips by scout mounting. Taking off the rear sight will allow you to use a standard Weaver mount, or you can buy a scout mount (dont get the B Square, it wont hold zero becase of no azimuth lock), and a LER (pistol) scope. I have used Darrels mounts on several mosins over the years with the desired results. Here are pics of an M39 that has been hunting and target shooting for 11 years now with no loss of zero (and no permanent modifications)

here are the links to where you can buy this setup for yours

Oh, I didn't even think about the bolt handle ... I've got a bent bolt already.
