View Full Version : Piston system thats not a Wuss

Im looking for a piston upper that is not afraid to shoot 5.56/223 rounds in steel/brass/55g and up. Basically just like the title says. Not many suppliers list these kinds of things where a rifle needs to shoot 60+grain to function with the piston properly.

Any suggestions on real world experiences will be greatly appreciated

My CMMG piston upper hasn't missed any beats with PMC, SS109, or 55gr reloads.

XCR...couple hundred rounds on setting 4 for break in and your GTG forever on setting 2.:)

My Adams eats anything too. Never once skipped a beat on ANY ammo. But I can't give 100% credit solely to AA...no one can for any piston brand. The piston system does not make your rifle all of a sudden "eat any ammo": It's a combination of buffer spring, buffer, extractor spring, barrel port size, and length of gas system.

If your DI system is not eating crappy ammo, then a piston system probably won't fix that either. However, it seems that piston systems do take less pressure to fully cycle the rifle given the same operating components.

Don't get me wrong, I am a piston fanboy....drop in or ground up built. But I don't pretend that it's the end- all, be-all of the AR-15.

My stag 8 has and will run anything i put in it. I have 4k of everything from brass to steel 55g 62g and on and on. It shoots it all great. So far never had a single problem.

My CMMG Piston upper shoots steel case ammo just fine. Dirty Russian ammo, no problem! Its cheap too so that all i shoot. I save the good brass stuff for a rainy day. Two thumbs up for CMMG. :13:

My MR556 shoots russian crap just fine.

MR556 is WAAAAYYYY overrated and overpriced. Almost bought one, but decided on an LWRC A3 instead.

My AdamArms upper also eats everything I feed it. They claim they also fixed the tilt issue with the bolt and LL warranty :D

I really like the fact that cleaning is of no concern with the Piston system.

My M6A2 had issues with cheap ammo. My ACR eats everything.
