So I got an ACOG over a month ago, but haven't been able to mount it because the TWS dustcover rail I ordered a month ago is still backordered. Every week the status is "shipping next week". So annoyed I'd like to just cancel it all completely, but I've waited too long and can't return the ACOG now. (pretty sad, since the TWS rail was one of the reasons I bought the S308 in the first place...)

That said... suggestions for picatinny rail mounts-- other than the unobtanium TWS dustcover rail-- that are actually IN STOCK?

Have you checked over vendors for TWS, I believe brownells sells them also.

Also, there is a new company putting out similar mounts, I believe parabellum arms is the name.

A couple weeks back I contacted TWS directly about the backorder, and they confirmed. Kinda sucks, as the vendor has already charged my visa for the full pop. (is that even legal?)

Huh, a friend was able to get one from a local vendor here a few weeks ago. I'll see if he has any instock.

gen 1 or gen 2, and is it the one specifically for the S308 ? I don't think the leaf sight I got will work with a gen 1.

Man, why we all think that Russians that made AK ,scopes and red dots for this rifle don’t know s&%t, why we, myself included, trying to invent a bicycle again, I wasted so much time and money for all this nonsense ,mounts ,rails, rings cheekweilds and at the end I just went back to Russian(Belorussian) POSP,PSO,Rakurs,Obzor scopes, very good glass and you can use the irons too.

I bet after every time you want to clean your rifle and unscrew that rear screw over and over till it's permanently loose you'll trow that mount away.
+ The scope is to big and to high. Proper cheek support is important with any scoped rifle and there's' no way you get get proper cheek weld unless you are Jay Leno...... wait, that would be chin weld.

I have what may be a dumb question:

What's the difference between these mounts and other mounts available for much cheaper.

If you go to the Carolina shooters. Supply website, they have several mounts in the $30-$50 range. I imagine they must be of decent quality, since CSS is a reputable supplier.

Anyone???

The mounts I am talking about are these:

Side mount, quick release, $34.95
http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-147/AK47-SIDE-LOW-PROFILE/Detail

Another side mount, $49.95
http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-1075/AK47-Saiga-Scope-Mount/Detail

Beryl style mount, $39.95
http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-336/Saiga-rifle-AK47-Beryl/Detail

What advantage do the $100+ mounts have over these?

I just got a Saiga 308, and am looking for a mount to add a scope.

The UTG mounts (the first one you posted) are made a not-so-strong metal. They are also really heavy.

I have one if you want it, I won't use it.

I don't have any information on the other two you posted.

Sure, I'll try it if you are willing to let it go. Thanks! I'll send you a PM.

I had the UTG mount on my Saiga for a while. It was ok, held zero, but I did have to crank down the tension screw just about everytime I took it off for cleaning. Ended up selling it with the rifle.

I wouldnt get another one. Damn thing sits way to high

I have the UTG on my S308. Works great. Centers perfectly over bore centerline unlike many other mounts out there. I you're using a scope with high magnification, its fine. However, if you're using a red dot or a low profile scope, it can be a bit high.

Not sure of this one.

Beryl style mount, $39.95

I had the SGM Tactical version of this mount. The only problem with this is that you lose the use of your irons.

What advantage do the $100+ mounts have over these?
I like the new Midwest rail because it sits low which is great for a low profile optic. They also have rail for a 30mm red dot that is also good.
