Hi my name is Mark and I have been doing extensive research on different guns, handguns and rifles. I want to know exactly what I am getting myself into before I get into it. Currently I am looking at an XD9mm or XD40. Also looking for an AR15 also.

Currently I am looking at an XD9mm or XD40
So, why? Price, material, availability, format.......? Those are good guns, but there are many others.

Welcome to Calguns. I don't know what your budget is like but keep in mind that 9mm ammo is less expensive than .40 if you plan to shoot it a lot.

Welcome aboard. There is a lot of good information posted in the stickies for Handguns and Centerfire rifles to start your search.

Hey welcome. I use an XD .40 for work and have been very happy with it. And ARs are fun also!

Get an FNP9 or FNP40 while/if you still can. Just got mine and love it

Welcome to Calguns.
If possible, you should try all kinds of them before buying.

AR look for a logo you want, as they are all close to the same (5.56mm NATO chamber, 1:8 twist so you can shoot the "good stuff", and the cheap stuff well too).
M9 9mm (Beretta 92*) for the easy pickins' with no upward-moving parts that jingle with the slide locked back), .45 because they don't make a .46 (although they do make a .50). :)

Welcome!! X2 on shooting them. Goto a local range and try out a few to help pick the one you want. Where u located?

X3 on shooting before you buy! Especially if it is your first handgun. Try calling your local ranges and ask them if they have what you are looking to buy for rental. Shouldn't be more than 10-15 bucks + their ammo (will be a little more than usual) but better to shoot and find out which handgun you like before buying it and then realizing that you don't like it...
btw XDs are great guns but I still recommend checking out others as well. Goodluck.

Welcome. I would definitely recommend a XD. I have the compact 9mm and love it. I'm sure you will too. Enjoy.
