View Full Version : Howdy from the North Bay!

Hey everyone! I was referred to this site by a member over at For B Bodies Only, as I'm a Mopar nut. Couldn't be more of a FNG here, just starting to begin the process of buying my first firearm.
Looking for a weapon for home defense... nothing happened that made me want to go this route, more that I feel like a firearm in my house is something I won't need until I really need it, better to have it just in case.
Starting to zero in on either a 9mm pistol or .38 special revolver for my needs. I've heard the shotgun argument, but I'm sticking with a pistol to start with. Any input into what to consider purchasing would be much appreciated.
Thanks, looking forward to being a member of Calguns!

Welcome, I just made my first handgun purchase and before I went to CenterMass range in Vacaville and shot about 10 different handguns along with 3 that my buddy brought with him...I narrowed my choices down greatly after doing that.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll be heading to the nearest range... probably Bullseye in San Rafael, very soon to start narrowing the search!

Home defense? My opinion: most anything that goes "bang" will do the job. There are skills involved....yunno?...situational awareness/being "surgical" with your weapon. Good Lawyer.

Yee haw! Took a beginner handgun course yesterday, very informative and enjoyable. Got out on the range, and shot a .22, and a 9mm. Found the Glock 34 to be the perfect fit, felt good in my hand, I was comfortable shooting it, and had no problem getting some good groupings at 7 yards. Not far, I know, but hey- it's a good start.
So I plunked down the cash, passed the safety test, filled out the paperwork. I'll be taking my new gun home in 10 days! As someone completely new to firearms, I couldn't be happier. I'm sure I'll be posting a lot more soon. Thanks for the warm welcome and the great advice!
