Just got my first bolt action, a Rem 700 5R and wanted to use my tango down bipod from another build. I purchased a GGG adapter so the stock can accept a pic rail, but it didnt quite line up, so I extended the groove and my GGG rail is now gg!

Used a hacksaw to put some deep cuts in the aluminum, then turned a screw driver in the slot to break off large metal chunks, then cleaned it up with a bastard file

I just did this tonight and got the bipod on, but here is how I shot yesterday off a front rest. I haven't been behind a scope in over a year, but managed to put this 4-shot ~.5"+ group together at 100yds with some 168 match ammo and had one flier. Pretty sure that flier was my heartbeat, my reticle was jumping around all day.

where did you buy your 5R barrel? I'm looking to buy one.

What you did works, but Seekins makes one so you don't have to ruin your current rail.

yea they had at least a 4 week wait so I cancelled my order and bought a GGG thinking it would fit.. Thanks though, and my rail isn't ruined... its now perfect! It all wraps up tight under bipod now anyway. If any part was visible I'd repark it or blue it, but its GGG2G

4 weeks ouch! I saw that Seekins rail when I was looking into getting an Atlas bipod. Those were backordered too!

At what distance did you shoot that group?

Great, and no modification needed on the stock, right?

No

Here is my best 5-shot 100 yard group measuring 0.60" shooting the last of my match 168 HPBT from this past weekend. I shot more consistent and had 6 other throwaway targets with 0.75" 5-shot groups. I also went back to 200 yards and held 0.75" MOA groups. Gonna keep working on it and I have 200 rounds of 175 grain coming in which is what my 5R barrel is apparently specialized for (1/11.25 twist). I expect the larger grain performance is for longer distances than 200yds and am unsure if my groups at 100 yards will show any change because of ammo (aka- i hope to improve and shoot better vs ammo).

Some more info, this was my second real trip to the range with my new 700. First trip i shot about 80 rounds with cleanings every 10 rounds. This past trip I shot 100 rounds with no cleaning and my groups seemed unaffected by fouling.

Only thing i dislike about this so far is the trigger guard is really crappy material and would like to replace it, but not sure I want to commit to $400 for a box magazine (eventually) and waste money on a metal $90 floorplate/guard. Also would like to paint the stainless barrel/receiver black.

Anyway, thanks for reading :)

Nice looking set up I'm thinking of getting rid of my stainless sps in 30-06 and getting the sps varment in all black. I already have a millett trs-1 so just needs to sell my long action and get a short action. That's a great scope isn't it? I have an lrs on my AR-308 and love that scope. Heavy as hell but accurate.
