What is typical off the shelf accuracy with good ammo for the various m1a models assuming a good shooter.

anywhere from 3moa to .5moa depending on model.

I was going to say 4.5 moa, I forget what the standard was for military acceptance of a M14 but it is near that number.

With match ammo and me doing my part I have squeezed out 1 moa on my rack grade M1A. It depends on the rifle and the shooter. With bulk military ammo it will shoot 2.5-3 moa groups.

I can get 1moa out of my Scout Squad using handloaded 168gr SMK's

Using irons, I can get 2 moa with auzzi surplus with my nearsighted non dominant eye(right handed but left eye dominanat...). I havent tried a scope yet but I am sure it will be much better. The M1a is really accurate as far as battle rifles go.

I can pull 1moa or just sub moa out of my scout squad and easily rings steel to 750-800 with 168's and 175's. Its in a JAE so I can't really say how it was before though

If tiny groups of 30cal holes is your thing then the AR platform is better and a bolt gun is probably best when you consider time, money and technique necessary to get there.

Yeah I bet there are some awesome 3-shot groups out there. Most M1As are going to give you somewhere between 2-4 MOA at best without a lot of work and money.

Why are you hating on M1A's?
