Hi Everyone,

New here and to guns. I have taking basic training on pistols (Glocks) and recently got to fire a few rifles and shotguns. Looking at purchasing my first gun in the coming months. I liked firing the Ruger Hawkeye m77 .308 up at cow moutain last weekend.

Mostly at first will be using it up there on the range and practicing target shooting for a while. I have been enjoying educating myself on all the info I can find and quickly becoming addicted to my new hobby. I'd hope to do some competition shooting far off in the future.

If anyone has any more advice on a rifle and ammo etc I would greatly appreciate it.

Hope everyone is doing well.:)

Welcome. Used to shoot a lot of .308, good caliber. I reloaded for accuracy. Seems lately .308 (at the store) is expensive.

Been shooting my Mosin Nagant (7.62 x 54R Russian), goes bang and costs less.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I am trying to absorb as much information as I can while also trying to find a rifle that can do it all if that's possible. While primarily it would be used for target shooting and hopefully be good enough for competition shooting I also have a good amount of friends that do hunting pig and similar size game that might want me to go out with them from time to time.

So is there an all around rifle that can be used for both? Does the Ruger Hawkeye m77 .308 qualify as that type of all around gun?

Thanks again for the warm welcome and happy to be here.
